Having a quiet day trying to work my way through my grandfather's military records. Easier said than done! It seems individuals in the British Army were in competition with doctors on the handwriting front.

He was deemed to be "Grade II == Fit for general service at home only, or sedentary service abroad"
He spend 2 years and 357 days abroad and 202 days at home between 11 November 1940 and 5 November 1943. He spent his time abroad in the Middle East and Sicily.
It's nice to have these records. We have some for our family, including letters home from the front. Those would have to pass the censor first.
They are nice to have and it's also nice the girls show some interest. Trying to decipher them is ... eeerrm fun. Thankfully the records office provided a help sheet for all the acronyms and things. Unfortunately, they didn't transcribe the rather challenging handwriting.
I wonder if 'AI' tools could help. I've not looked into military records, but we have medals and dog tags from some of our family. I need my parents to record what they know of the family history. I did some family tree research a while back, but it can be tricky to ensure you get the right people. My mum has some details that I need to get typed up as she is not into computers.
