Yes, the results have been pretty good so far. I don't know if the pace of new followers picked up, but there is certainly a lot more going on in the comment section of the posts I write, which I find to be a very good thing. And there are of course a lot of people who post a generic spam comment as well, hoping to make a few cents.

At this moment I would love to get some of those "great post comments". But that's only because I'm new and for now don't have to much followers.
I actually think it's a brilliant idea to upvote in the comment section. That would probably help to let steemit grow. Atm I think the average number of comments is around 2.5 per post. If you take into account that some comments only contain 1 sentence, there are really very few comments per post. And I always believed that social media lives by interaction.
Do you often receive comments with a different opinion or even critics? I do write them sometime, although I've learned it would be best to not. That's even included in the etiquette guide.
