''No Pain, No Palm: No Thorn, No Throne; No Gall, No Glory, No Cross No Crown.'' said by William Penn. He was obviously referring to his lord and master Jesus Christ, who crowned with thorns, was given the gall to drink and suffered pain on the cross when he was crucified. Only then as per the Christian belief, he won the palm of victory over evil, and got the eternal glory and the crown and throne in the hearts of millions of people across the world. Thus we can achieve nothing substantial, without effort, struggle, and sacrifice.

This also reminds us of the English proverb,''No Pain No Gain''.We should mark the word 'pain in this proverb. It does not denote suffering or trouble but precisely means that we must work hard and be willing to make all the sacrifice required for achieving success. Thus if we want to become a good scholar we must 'take pains' over our studies, denying ourselves ease and comfort.

There are many truly inspiring life stories of great men, who were born in extreme poverty, but by sheer dint of their hard work and sincelaborthey rose to the highest position in their country. Name like Abraham Lincoln began his life as a woodcutter, however, rose to become the President by virtue of his labour.

In the Hindu mythology, Karma or deed is of supreme importance and is the purpose of our life.We must therefore pay heed to the above, and continiously strive for our own betterment. We must not forget, that when even disabled people like Helen Keeler who was deaf, dumb and blind, could overcome her handicaps, and contribute to society. We as normal people have no reason to fail.We can also become good and virtuous,by resisting temptation, and striving for success in our endeavour. We must remember that no man ever became great in his sleep.
