In business today, every one’s opinion counts. Companies are looking to anyone and everyone for ideas. So, how are you to be sure that your idea is well received or your project is implemented?
You must be able to give a resounding speech and a definite call to action. That speech will most likely be an impromptu speech. Today I will lay down some guidelines for making sure your speech remembered and your ideas implemented.
Introduction
There are five functions of an introduction. They are:
- Gain attention
- Arouse interest
- State purpose
- Establish qualifications
- Forecast your speech
Remember to keep your introduction brief and to the point. You could grab their attention with a statistic about how much money your company could save if they implement your idea. Something, anything to get them listening.
Appeal to them emotionally
Tell your audience a story. Connect with them on an emotional level as opposed to just a fact level. If you are talking about helping your company save money. You could start your speech off by describing the freedoms everyone would enjoy with the money they’ll save if they do what you are describing.
Telling a story will make it easy for your audience to remember your points because they will be able to relate it to themselves and their activities.
Make them learn something new
Increase their knowledge. You are giving this speech because you know something that the others don’t. By the end of your speech everyone should be on the same page and know everything they need to know about your idea.
If your audience is left in the dark about any part of your idea it will make them forget it easier and shoot holes in your creditability. Plus it is always better to answer objections before they come up.

Conclusion
Here is the make it or break it point. Your conclusion must briefly summarize your speech and call them to action. You must also have a clear ending.
If you end your speech by saying “well that’s all folks” no one will take it seriously. Your conclusion is your chance to build upon and reinforce your message. Try ending it with another attention grabbing fact or statistic.
While it is said that the fear of public speaking is greater than the fear of death, it doesn’t have to be that way. Being able to effectively communicate, most often at a moments notice, is essential to today’s fast paced world. Just remember grab their attention, appeal to them emotionally and then end it with a bang!
