Nateshwar Buddha Bihar, the birth place of great Buddhist thinker Atish Dipankar, is situated in Munshigonj district of Bangladesh. This place has been discovered as a lost city with the joint venture of Bangladesh and a team from China.
I had the opportunity to visit this place and feel proud to be a part of witness of this archaeological structures. The joint venture excavations work is going on considering 10 acres of land. You will find some pictures here which were taken by me during the excavations work.
It is assumed that this Buddha Bihar was a spiritual place of Buddhists as found an octagonal stupa (Buddhist shrine) along with two stupas with a four-meters wide wall. According to Buddhist religious belief, octagonal stupa means eight holy “mantras” of the Buddhists. It is assumed that these stupas were built around 1200 AD. Along with these stupas many other ancient structures including roads and drains were found.
Above all information I got talking with the local people and reading the on site signboard. According to Buddhist religious people and visiting Chinese experts, this place could be one of the holy places of Buddha followers.
You can also visit the place which will take only 2-hour journey from Dhaka city. You can go by bus or private car as per your choice. I believe you will enjoy the tour as I experienced.
