Este breve himno del siglo XIV utilizado en la eucaristía, famoso en el tiempo que la misa era en latín, es un motete cuya música fue creada por Mozart sobre texto del papa Inocencio VI (Beyssac 1282 o 1295 - Aviñon 1362).
Este género musical nació en el siglo XII y fue utilizado hasta el siglo XVII. Generalmente eran composiciones polifónicas sin acompañamiento, aunque luego se utilizaron instrumentos.
