Who are afraid of bullets?

in #busy8 years ago

"Well, if the shooting goes,
A bullet hole will find ... "

(the poet Bulat OKUDJAVA).

"Nine grams, heart,
Wait, do not tear ... "

(Almost a folk song).

Many, probably, read or heard about an officer, Suvorov's assistant, on the example of which the great commander constantly argued to his subordinates: this bully does not take bullets, a bullet-it's a fool, a daring bullet is afraid, and so on. Of course, Count Alexander Vasilievich was a great soldier psychologist, he knew how to inspire the army before the battle, but ... why did Suvorov himself die in bed of old age, and not perished in a field stuffed with lead, although hundreds of shotguns shot at the commander, how on the most attractive target? What is the secret of people who were not literally taken by a bullet?
The question here is not just about luckiness, although it is worthy of a separate conversation. Especially I want to understand not in those cases when one stepped on a mine, and another stepped over it, but in those stories, when both the lucky and the unlucky one-ODINAKOV fall under bullets, but-as you understand-with different consequences. Now to understand - why?
Let us turn to the history from the time of the first chronicles about the fighting clashes and we will pass to our days. As for the literary adventures of warriors and knights of all ranks and all countries, the description of their feats of arms suspiciously resembles modern third-rate militants, in which non-main characters serve exclusively as targets for the main characters. There is a complete impression that the epic knights were absolutely invulnerable to arrows, spears and swords of the enemy. However, the reason is not hidden: conspiracies, magic amulets, amulets, etc. A classic legend about Achilles and his undeclared heel will not be repeated.
In general, the victory and defeat in battle with the use of cold weapons, as far as possible to believe the experts in martial arts, this is a matter that almost entirely depends on the fighting spirit of the person. In the ancient Japanese martial arts, it was believed that the fight was won by a victory in a duel of views - the one who through the eyes will convince the enemy of his vulnerability, he and the winner, who for the formalities could only finish off the defeated sword. Let's assume that it was so and it seems to be the way it is. But here the magicians invent the gunpowder, then the firearms, which seem to neglect the arts and smash anyone without falling. And their own, and strangers. Then the classic case of Suvorov utters his immortal: "The bullet is a fool, the bayonet is a fine fellow."
Soon another phrase is born: "A daring bullet is afraid." However, at that time, that of those primitive guns guaranteed to get into the soldier, one would have to force this very soldier to stand for a long time (it is desirable to tremble with fear). To get into a moving target - in a gallant attacker - the case was almost hopeless. It would seem that the legend was born? No, killing an escaping coward from a gun is even more difficult than running towards a brave man. So the low accuracy of the guns has nothing to do with it. Moreover, not one or two guns participated in real battles, but the volley of the musketeer ranks wiped out the ranks of the attackers better than a long burst of machine guns. It was when the regiments and armies faded after each volley that the officers noticed that not everyone suffered equally from the torrential flood of lead. In each regiment there must have been some mustached grenadier whose invulnerability was covered by legends ... By the way, running ahead, we will say that from the experience of the described it follows that the safest place in the battle is to be close to the "happy" commander. And the most dangerous place begins already in two meters from him ...

Because there is a difference between leaders an followers... smooth talkers and people who believe everything, dumb asses who are willing to fight for the ideas (plans of some one else instead of setting their own goals) and smart asses who know how to manipulate without making their hands dirty. There are masters and slaves and it will always be that way.
