The IELTS writing module examines your ability to produce two different pieces of writing in a short period of time. Before applying to sit for the exam, you have to decide whether to take an IELTS academic or an IELTS general training. Structure:
IELTS academic writing is designed in such a way wherein your ability to write clear, coherent & well organized English is checked.
There are two tasks and you will get total 60 minutes to complete both tasks. You are advises to spend about 20 minutes on task 1 and 40 minutes on task 2.
**Task 1: **In task 1, you will get sort of visual information, which you are supposed to describe in your own language.
For Example:- there may be a diagram, statistical information in the form of line graphs, bar charts, tables or pie charts. It can describe how something has changed over a period of time, or there can be low sets of visual information for comparison.
Task 2: In task 2, you are supposed to provide your opinion about a contemporary issue, and to support your opinion with reasons and examples. The task may contain the form of a brief, general statement and you have to give your view on to how much extent you agree or disagree with it. It can be argumentative and ask you to discuss these views before giving your own opinion. Another category of task presents you with a problem and asks you to describe possible causes and solutions.

Before the test:
• Check some sample answers of writing to get the information about the accurate structure of answrs.
• For task 1 it is suggested to look at the visual content and understand it fully before starting writing. Practice on tables, charts to see how information is typically laid out.
• While practicing on writing tasks, use a stop watch app on your phone or computer to keep track of time.
• For task 2 practice on writing plans of different types of question before you answer them. Make sure you add an introduction, two to three paragraphs on the different aspects of the topic and a conclusion in the end.
• Update yourself on latest news and current affairs in English. While you are reading the articles, think about your opinions on the issues. This will help you find some ideas to speak about a variety of different topics.
• Follow the time limit. Try to complete task 1 in 20 minutes so that you will get 40 minutes time for task 2.
During the Test:
• During test, the tasks appear on a question paper and you will get a separate answer sheet for your answers. There is a specific space on the answer sheet for you to write each of the two tasks.
• Write clearly so that the examiners (markers) can read your writing easily.
• Don’t waste time counting words during test. Whenever you practice, always check words you write. This will help you to analyze how much you need to write during the actual exam.
After the Test:
It is a good way to reflect on how you are performing in the test. But don’t waste your precious time and energy worrying about any mistakes you may have made.
