RE: Day 1 - Who Is Jose Saramago? For Steemit BWPhotography Challenge & Quiz!

Aaah, I know him, he wrote a brilliant book in which he imagines "what if no-one would die anymore?" All the logistical problems that would arise from it. When I heard about it, I had to get the book immediately. He really thought this, through, LOL, I mean look:

On the first day of the new year, no one dies. This of course causes consternation among politicians, religious leaders, morticians, and doctors.
Among the general public, on the other hand, there is initially celebration—flags are hung out on balconies, people dance in the streets. They have achieved the great goal of humanity: eternal life. Then reality hits home—families are left to care for the permanently dying, life-insurance policies become meaningless, and funeral parlors are reduced to arranging burials for pet dogs, cats, hamsters, and parrots.

Death sits in her chilly apartment, where she lives alone with scythe and filing cabinets, and contemplates her experiment: What if no one ever died again? What if she, death with a small d, became human and were to fall in love?

Sadly, he's got such a weird writing style (I think he invented his own), that I simply can't read the book! It's been sitting on my shelf for years...

I am amazed that at least 2 replied and cared who this fascinating Author is. His thoughts are “out of This World” in my opinion. Very unique style indeed.

I also have problems to read all the way through and I think it might be easier to know Portuguese.

Check this out! You might find it more enjoyable to listen and just hear the sound of the language and watch him reading :)
