Oh sure, I do not doubt it is legit especially after being shared by high rep and fellow steemeans I do know and most of my friends are already enjoying it. Of course the spam issue is secondary and has nothing to do with the initiative but human nature. And as I say I kind of wish to do it but agreed not to use ext app unsupervised. And hit 60 so it is tempting but I am a team of two.
