The average cost for an inmate in Texas is around $47.50 every day.
For example, just recently deputies raided a cannabis farm in Texas, arresting 4 people. They allegedly found about 585 cannabis plants and several jars of thc butter. All of them were charged with possession as a result of their victimless crime.
They are no danger to the community, not for making butter and growing plants.
These aren't the sort of people that the police should be focusing their attention on arresting and detaining.
Along with the plants and butter, it's also alleged that authorities found some thc oil. Butter, plants, and oil. No victim, no property violation. Just growing some plants and doing some home-cooking.
Cannabis is still illegal in Texas for recreational use, along with a variety of other regions in the United States, and it's still federally prohibited too.
It has only been legalized (or decriminalized) in a few areas, for medicinal or recreational purposes, including Canada, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, Jamaica, Portugal, Argentina, and Bermuda.
Instead of looking to infringe upon the rights of individuals, authorities should protect their natural right to choose to grow, trade, or consume cannabis etc.
They could choose to be more open to the market, like those authorities have been in Jamaica, Portugal, and other regions, that have sought to try and embrace the market as best as they could. Of course they still infringe their control in many ways, but at least they've expressed the awareness that they understand less restriction is likely going to help to potentially solve a number of problems and bring many benefits, boost tourism, create jobs, and more.
Arresting people and ruining their day over plants, butter, and oil shouldn't be something that we are proud to perpetuate any longer.

Thanks for posting. It's so sad when honest people just trying to medicate or make a living get their lives robbed from them. $47.50/day is an interesting number - imagine if that much were spent on cannabis for a sick person instead.
It's really bad in Canada after legalisation...cannabis basically got recriminalized and any activities outside the legal fat cat regime get harder time than rape, assault, and sometimes even murder. And the new legalised recreational market now trumps medical cannabis, but the recreational government weed is horribly overpriced and toxic.

It's illegal in NY, I do it anyway. Fuck the law, if people force hard enough against this bullshit legislation, they will have no choice but to remove these infringements upon the lives of peaceful human beings.
Maybe the laws are more strict where you are. It's only a ticket here for small possession, but if you could do in anonymously, I damn sure would. Stand up for what you believe in!
