Some people consider cars (automobile) a necessity while some consider it a luxury. Well, everybody is entitled to his/her own opinion, I guess 🤷.

According to Wikipedia, Cars came into global use during the 20th century, and developed economies depend on them. The year 1886 is regarded as the birth year of the car when German inventor Carl Benz patented his Benz Patent-Motorwagen. Cars became widely available in the early 20th century. One of the first cars accessible to the masses was the 1908 Model T, an American car manufactured by the Ford Motor Company.
Gone are those days when people travel several miles in days, just to see their loved ones or pass a message across. Before the invention of cars, few people lived just more than a few miles from where they grew up. Suddenly, people had a new mode of transportation that could get them to more places which makes leisure travel something common folk could afford.
THE DOWN SIDE – Death and Injury
In Life, there are two sides to everything, the good and the bad, the pretty and the ugly. While cars have given people freedom and convenience, vehicle accidents are also a leading cause of deaths across the globe. Research shows that approximately 1.35million people die in road crash every year while an additional 20 – 50 million people suffer non-fatal injuries.
NOW, BACK TO THE TOPIC…
Owning a car these days has become a necessity. It is no longer a luxurious investment but something necessary to our everyday life. Even though in Africa, the mentality is that it is wise to build a house first before you buy a car (That’s a topic for another day). Apart from the fact that it provides comfort and convenience, one peculiar thing I love about it is that it gives you control of your own time. There’s no hanging about waiting for public transport to turn up in a potentially bad weather. You are able to plan your schedules effectively without having to worry about logistics.
So, if I may ask, do you consider cars a Luxury or Necessity?
