Best known for being the car to bring Japan its first Le Mans win in 1991, beating Mercedes and Jaguar.

The car? Mazda 787B

The 787s were the last Wankel rotary-powered racing cars to compete in the World and Japanese championship, using Mazda's R26B engine.

With its rotary-engine prototype R26B with three spark plugs per rotor, with Porsche's five-speed gearbox allowed for a maximum power output of 900 hp

  • Power to weight 0.84 bhp / kg
  • Rotors: 4
  • Maximum redline of 10,500 rpm

Did you know?

The ban of the rotary was only a byproduct of the 1991 rules being enforced for 1992. For this reason, the ultra reliable 787B never had its rotary engine return.
