Are you struggling with the steep rise in fuel costs? Is this the time to go EV?

in #cars2 years ago

As we head into Spring 2022, there are things to look forward to - better weather, and Covid-19 restrictions have been removed.

There are also things going on that are not so nice. Russia has invaded Ukraine, and it's having ripple effects around the world, and one of those is rising fuel costs (fuel for your home and fuel for your car)

Over the winter, many households have struggled with the steep increase of gas prices, and everyone's heating costs have gone up a lot...

Now, there has been a surge in pricing at the pumps, and all time highs for petrol at £1.61.1 a litre, and diesel at £1.70.1 a litre, with some London petrol stations charging over £2 a litre for petrol.

Again, these price increases have a lot to do with what's happening with Russia, as war always pushes the prices up. Hopefully, petrol and diesel may stabilise soon, as the UAE have announced in the last few days that they will boost production in other oil exporting nations as a way of filling the gap left by Russian sanctions.

So a question - with prices this high (and with the possibility of them going higher) would you consider making the switch to an electric vehicle?

With the costs for running an electric vehicle so much lower than a combustion car, this crisis may just be the catalyst for many to make the switch...

What are your thoughts?

Thank you all!

Hi Annabelle

I was actually thinking about this two days ago. We've had a huge surge in petrol price - I think the last increase was around 10%. The problem here in South Africa is that our country can't keep the electricity grid stable so we have load shedding regularly. I don't see EVs becoming a thing here as a result, it would just be too unreliable. Don't know what's going to give, but something definitely will. Whenever fuel costs go up, the price of everything else follows suit because of the supply chain being hit. It's not a nice situation at the moment.

That's the truth, @andrastia - we are all feeling it at the moment. Honestly, I think it's going to get worse before it gets better...

Hmmm it doesn't bode well for the future, but let's see how it goes. Hopefully there are solutions that can be implemented globally.

Have a lovely day

Thank you, @andrastia - you too!

Yes i am considering an electric vehicle.

Which one would you go for, @j85063?

Annabelle 😊

You do realize that just as easily as the banksters canceled canadian bank accounts, they can shut down your ev?
Tesla is getting pestered today to do it to the ruskies.
Leaving aside the lack of electrical grids that cannot handle the extra load, the extra metals mined for those batteries are driving poor people from their land by polluting their water.
Be careful what you wish for.
Cars could just as easily be run on natural gas.

As much as I want to say yes to EVs and I know they are pretty much locked in as our future and HP can get pretty insane with them… I just can’t get over my addiction to the sound of an engine shifting gears and an exhaust bellowing out sweet sweet sounds.
