I think this is even criminal..
Of course, I am not saying every taxi driver in Hong Kong is bad. But, I believe the majority of them are. And that's no reason the government don't give Uber as a second choice to us.

I have many disappointing and angry experiences of hiring taxi in Hong Kong... Many of them do not like short distance. Some of them reject me by saying "I don't know where is it". And cheating tourists, even local by circuitous drive..
Yes, if the government don't take action , just let the market take the action. But the government just actively help the domination of the poor taxi quality. There is totally not a free market in Hong Kong anymore.
may Uber be a better choice than taxi?
I've been in Hongkong many times but no problem dealing with Taxi drivers, all good experience.

Is Uber alternative transportation in HK?
I hope to answer you yes. But if you have my post https://steemit.com/chainbb-general/@victorier/uber-status-in-hong-kong-2017616t15013185z that police arrest some Uber driver. Which made the numbers of Uber driver decrease, such that the number of car you can call is decreased.
But yes, you can still call the car by Uber, but you have to make your order like 10-20 mins earlier.
