Give a man a Fish

"Give a man a Fish and you feed him for a day; Teach a man to Fish and you feed him for a lifetime"

The general principle of alleviating poverty by facilitating self-sufficiency has a long history.

Today, in the modern world, a million "charities" want your money. Most target short term problems or waste your donations keeping themselves pertinent whilst doing limited "good". They do little to nothing to deal with the longer term problems of the modern world.

Rather than just throwing free stuff at people, Wouldn't it be great to allow them to work there way out of poverty. To Develop Businesses that employ local people, to allow them to send their children to school, to grow food or manufacture goods, to give them dignity in their abilities.

Well there are many people who want to work their way out of poverty, they just want funds, not handouts

You can provide this through CARE Internationals, Lend with Care project. Currently I have provided loans to 8 different individuals, all of which have started to repay the loans on time.

How it works
"Lendwithcare is a revolutionary way to help some of the world’s poorest people work their way out of poverty with dignity. Lendwithcare allows you to lend as little as £15 to fund a small business and once your money is repaid you can choose to recycle your loan to support another poor entrepreneur, or withdraw your money. Lendwithcare is currently working in ten countries."

ALL the money you loan to the entrepreneur goes to the entrepreneur.
ALL the money that is repaid by the entrepreneur is returned to you.
The in country microfinance institutions are funded from the loan interest payments, not your money.
CARE International is financed through optional donations outside of the loans.

People I am currently supporting
Here are some example bio's of the people I am currentlyproviding loans to.

"Jean Baptiste Mbangutse and his wife are farmers. They have 5 children. One is in secondary school, three are in primary school and another one is going to start next year. To support his family’s day to day financial needs he grows irish potatoes. He has been in business for 8 years now. Through his potato farming business, he has created temporarily employment for 56 people in his neighbourhood. He wants to expand his potato business but does not have the fund so he is requesting a loan through his micro-finance institute to buy all the necessary farming products for example good quality seeds, fertilizers ect to get healthy crops that will give him a good yield. He is hopeful that he will be able to increase his profit greatly after paying of his expenses. He looks forward to increase his irish potatoes harvest by 2200 kilos every quarter. The loan will not only help Jean Baptiste expand his potato plantation it will also create temporary employment for 14 more people in his neighbourhood. In the future, he would like to create a factory that makes potatoes crisps. This is not the first loan that he requested with the previous loan, he started his business. "

"Janeth Cango is married and from near the small southern town of Cariamanga. She has five children, four of whom are attending school. One of her daughters, aged 16, has a severe disability so she stays at home all the time. Janeth is a small-scale farmer raising hens and cattle. She has been farming with her husband for the past 14 years or so. She is proud that her work has allowed her not only to build her house but also to acquire a plot of land where her cattle graze. She grows her own maize which she feeds the hens. Every Sunday she takes her products to the free market fair in Catamayo where she usually sells five chickens. Janeth estimates that her monthly profit is around $220. Janeth requested a loan to buy three young bulls and some free-range hens. "

"Mrs. Bui Thi Luong is 31 years old and married she has two school going children and they all live in an mountainous area of the Hoa Binh province. She and her husband are farmers. They run a business breeding pigs and farming rice/paddy. Their rice paddy land is around 1000 sq. meters. They plant two crops of rice/paddy each year. As her family’s enterprise is relatively modest, Mrs. Luong invests part of their income in breeding four pigs. Due to the recent increasing demand for pigs, she intends to invest in her pig business to increase her profit. She is requesting a loan from MACDI to purchase more pigs to breed and sell. A part of the loan will be used to buy pig feeds. She will pay back her loan in 24 months."
