Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 NIV - I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil(labor)—this is the gift of God(YHVH).
How would you FEEL if you where doing everything right and everything you did only made people angry, so angry they begin to seek revenge against you? Several stories in the Bible reflect who’s driving in these situations, it’s either the Flesh or the Spirit. I don’t know about you but It sounds like a test of patience to me, because it’s only when we’re under pressure when we show one of the two sides of ourselves.
Genesis 26:12-17 NIV - Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the Lord(YHVH) blessed him. The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy. He had so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him. So all the wells that his father’s servants had dug in the time of his father Abraham, the Philistines stopped up, filling them with earth. Then Abimelek said to Isaac, “Move away from us; you have become too powerful for us.” So Isaac moved away from there and encamped in the Valley of Gerar, where he settled.
Depending on who’s driving at the moment this can go two ways from here, glass half full or half empty type of scenario; or how about the flesh(emotions) or the Spirit(Holy understanding), which do you think would have control In your life in this situation?
Genesis 26:19-24 NIV - Isaac’s servants dug in the valley and discovered a well of fresh water there. But the herders of Gerar quarreled with those of Isaac and said, “The water is ours!” So he named the well Esek, because they disputed with him. Then they dug another well, but they quarreled over that one also; so he named it Sitnah. He moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over it. He named it Rehoboth, saying, “Now the Lord(Elohim) has given us room and we will flourish in the land.” From there he went up to Beersheba. That night the Lord(YHVH) appeared to him and said, “I am the God(Elohim) of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bless you and will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham.”
When you think your status means something and your pride or fear causes you to FEEL like you know what is best, keep this story in mind; because even a king must repent when he’s wrong if he’s paying attention.
Genesis 26:26-31 NIV - Meanwhile, Abimelek had come to him from Gerar, with Ahuzzath his personal adviser and Phicol the commander of his forces. Isaac asked them, “Why have you come to me, since you were hostile to me and sent me away?” They answered, “We saw clearly that the Lord(Elohim) was with you; so we said, ‘There ought to be a sworn agreement between us’—between us and you. Let us make a treaty with you that you will do us no harm, just as we did not harm you but always treated you well and sent you away peacefully. And now you are blessed by the Lord(Elohim) .” Isaac then made a feast for them, and they ate and drank. Early the next morning the men swore an oath to each other. Then Isaac sent them on their way, and they went away peacefully.
Reflection:
Did you notice something was missing from the verses above, how about Gen. 26:18; You should check it out? Do you want to know something else, a lot of people like to teach on a single verse and give you their interpretation about it’s meaning sometimes for 45 minutes to an hour and ignores the context surrounding it. How about we just leave the interpretations to the context of what has been written and learn from it, rather then trying to polish our emotions?
John 15:25-26 NKJV - But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law(Torah), ‘They hated Me without a cause.’ “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.
Authors note:
Some where in the Torah(Gen-Deut) is your testimony or a stage in your walk being put on display before you, in living color. So, here is my question, does your life reflect YHVH(God)? I hope so, I really do! Because if it doesn’t, there are other stories about another player in this game of Life who’s also recruiting follower’s of the lie!
