God wants us to engage in prayer in order that, by burning with desire to obtain what we wish, we may advance in virtue. By prayer we exercise and increase not only the virtue of religion but also humanity by professing to be poor; faith, by believing in God's power and goodness; hope, in being confident in God's help; and charity, by striving to be united with God.
The goal of praying constantly is not to pester God till he yields to our request. The goal of every good prayer is to bring us in constant Union with God.
Praying constantly increases our longing for God as well as increasing our virtue.
In the process of praying constantly we come to purify the intentions of our hearts. The effect of prayer is on us not on God. Constant prayer makes us grow continually in the presence of God.
Persistence in a particular request or repeated prayer could be a disturbance to humans but for God it is a different phenomenon. Continual and repeated prayer is not senseless as some people reason out.
