It has been said that tomorrow is not promised to any of us. Still, we live life like we have an endless supply of tomorrows.
I can often find solace in the promise of tomorrow. Perhaps it’s because in the hope of tomorrow I can make up for the wasted yesterdays. The potential of tomorrow inebriates me, as much as wine does the drunkard. I can wrap myself in it and sleep well. For I know that tomorrow I will be a better me.
I am mentally reviewing the list of things I will start tomorrow. It is not quite as long as the things I plan on completing tomorrow. But both those lists pale in comparison to the things that I will finally get around to tomorrow. At the top of that list is cleaning out the back closet.
There is the girl that I adore from afar. (There is always a girl). Tomorrow is the day that I will finally call her and tell her how I feel. Tomorrow is also the day that I say I am sorry to loved ones that I have hurt.
But alas, tomorrow is the day that never comes. It is like chasing the wind. We can all feel it. We can all anticipate it; but never quite catch it. Tomorrow is like having an unrequited love. It is close enough to keep us enamored with it. But it will always remain just out of reach.
The beauty of tomorrow is that it truly offers a new start; a fresh beginning. It permits us to turn the page on disappointment and failure. It enables us to pursue all that can be. But we must embrace it. Michael Jordan is considered by many to be the greatest basketball player of all time. During the height of his success he filmed a commercial that recounted all of his failures. He ended the commercial by giving us the key to his success. Tomorrow would provide a new opportunity.
5 Keys to a Better Tomorrow
Don’t let your critics tell you that it is over for you. Magic Johnson won his very first year in the league. Larry Bird won in his second year. Jordan did not win until his seventh season.
Don’t let your failures become your tombstone; make them your stepping stone. Most people don’t remember the numerous Jordan critics. They questioned if he could ever win “the big one.”
Put the necessary work in today. Life is cyclical and seasonal. What we do today will shape how our tomorrow looks.
Find a mentor to help you along the way. Jordan did not when until Phil Jackson became his coach.
Allow others to see your journey. Your story is worth sharing. By helping someone else today, you can both have a better tomorrow.
As for me, there is a book that I have been longing to write. I think I will finally start writing it tomorrow.
