Cairns is a beautiful tropical city, subject to the devastating effects of climate change. These include:
• Increasing temperatures;
• Mass extinction of species;
• Sea level rise;
• Apocalyptic natural disasters; and
Coral bleaching that will destroy the Great Barrier Reef
In my decade in public life I made Climate Change a big priority as the representative of the low lying pacific city of Cairns. Other community leaders, including business leaders and our Council resisted, criticized and downright denied the reality of climate change. How can they look their grandchildren in the eye? I don’t know the answer to that.
When your grandchildren ask you what you did for climate action when there was time to save the planet, what will you tell them? We all must act now!
