The Hong Kong Railway Museum

in #cn7 years ago

The Hong Kong Railway Museum is located in Tai Po Market and was the former train station of the old railway system. It was built in 1913 and closed in 1983 due to the implementation of the new railway. Later on it became the museum, telling the history of the development of railway in Hong Kong.

I started my journey at Tai Wo Station and it only took me around 10 mins to walk to the museum. If you like something different from ordinary routes to visit Hong Kong, I would suggest to pay a visit here as you could experience the life of local people in the community near the museum.

The Museum was the main building of the old train station. It was built in the ancient Chinese architectural style, with the Chinese painting on the wall and the Chinese sculpture on the roof. There was a small locomotive which was powered manually in front of the main building. Also, the old train station sign was exhibited in the corner of the museum.

There were an interior exhibition hall and an exterior exhibition area for the museum. The interior hall mainly introduced the development an history of the railway system, while the trains shown in the exterior area told about the heritage and remains for the history.

The tickets was sold by staffs in the past time. The staffs had to familiar with all the data like the type of the tickets and the prices. So you can imagine how low the efficiency was at that time. The hall also showed like the old cupboard for ticket storage, the old printing machine etc.

I went outside to the exterior exhibition area. The first train I met was the 'Sir Alexander', which was the first diesel electric locomotive in Hong Kong.

I could walked on the railway here and it's quite an interesting experience as I couldn't try it out in the other place.

The railway just like the road of history and brought me back to the past time.

The red brick building besides the railway was the tourist center of the museum and you could get some information about inside it.

You could find some historical footprint on some of the locomotives. The paint was even peeling off and you could feel the days they had in the past.

You could even go inside the locomotives to experience the past days.

This was the oldest train cabinet. The wooden chairs, the light bulb, the old fan all told about the old days in HK.

This was the second class cabinet, with the steel chair with cushion.

This was the first class cabinet. You could experience the most comfortable journey here in the old days.

All these cabinets had no air conditioning but it's still good to sit here to enjoy the natural environment around.

It's in fact quite chilling sitting here.

Luckily I could capture the beautiful sunset.

I mean can walk on the rail ar

Nice one
