YUM

This red spicy (optional, recommended) dish is easily one of the top favorite courses in just about any Israeli café or breakfast serving restaurant.

Though, we got to give credit to it's origins in Maghreb region of North Africa (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia), it probably became popular in Israel thanks to the Tunisian Jews.
I'm not much into politics, but let me just say I truly am optimistic about the chance that #Hummus, #Falafel & #Shakshuka are the secret ingredient for peace in the middle east ✌️☮️.

Etymology

The literal meaning of the word Shakshuka is "a mixture", derived from the Arabic verb "shakka", meaning "stick together".

What's in it

Well it's mainly delicious and wipe-able #tomato-sauce with #eggs swimming in it, #peppers, #scallions, #parsley, spiced with salt&pepper, #cumin, or other (many interpretations).
Often served with a #Merguez (spicy sausage),
I've also tried it with a minute steak and wow! MMM mmm! 👌👌👌

It goes well with so many combinations, and if you happen to read this and have an idea/recommendation of a good one

Please do share in the comments section!

--- Usually served in the iron cast pan that it was made in,
so watch out, it's very hot 😉

Eating Instructions (of course, just the best practices)

  • Use #bread to mop up the sauce & load some goodness in a circular motion.
  • assist with fork and knife.

Any Ole' thirsty bread will do
Or you could:
  • Throw inside a #pita.

    Mmm doughy pita
You'll find so many variations of this classic dish here

From green shakshukas to fancy beefy ones. I personally like the hipsterish variety, but must say that if you have to try just one, go for the classic!

One more good thing about shakshukas

Is that they are super easy to make, indoors & outdoors, easily being one of the most popular camping dishes in Israel.
Here's a pic from my last trip to the Jordan river

Notice the Shakshuka getting herself ready on that tree trunk 😍

Of course, if you're around northern Israel

This place is beautiful & relaxing, good for swimming and canoeing, lots of tarzan ropes hanging from the trees, plus, #Jesus walked on the water there a while ago. Anyway, it sure is one of the best spots to camp for a night or two.
For directions, just type in "Yardenit" in Waze or Goggle Maps (link to the location).

Cheers, and have a delicious red Monday anywhere anytime 😋
