#ColorChallenge - Sunday Purple

in #colorchallenge6 years ago

There's no distinct boundary between any two colors. Almost everyone will say that the colour of the sky is blue, and that eggplants are purple. However, the ocean is a different, deeper blue than the sky and certain grapes are a lighter purple; yet, we call them by the same color. We'd think that the color of a grape is more similar to the color of an eggplant than to the blue of the ocean. In reality, the ocean and the grape are more similar in color to each other, both being in the color category between blue and purple. We tend to think of things as belonging to categories even though they may lie on a spectrum. I guess this is an example of the principle of linguistic determinism, which suggests that language determines our thought processes, and to a certain extent, our knowledge.

ColorChallenge is a challenge initiated by @kalemandra.

Fig. 1 My friend pointed out that this is more magenta than purple.

Magenta is actually an extra-special color because it's an extra-spectral color. It's a mixture of red and blue light with the absence of green light. This means that it's not naturally present in the visible light spectrum. Purple and pink are also in this category of colors.

Fig. 2 Most colors in nature are accompanied by the color green. It's photosynthesis, baby!

Chlorophyll is the main pigment that makes plants green!

Fig. 3 My pride and joy, the Phalaenopsis. It has 9 flowers right now, with one of them wilted. Soon, all the other flowers will go as well. It's had them for a couple of months though, and I'll see them again next spring!

Thanks for checking this out!
