The promoted tab lets you burn Steem Backed Dollars to promote your content on steemit. In the beginning I saw people use this to promote a post that they thought deserved more recognition than it was getting. It seemed to work and I would look at it often to find new user content that I might not have discovered before. This eventually changed and it ended up being a tab that most users avoid and have no use for.
Five things we can do instead of burning SBD on the promoted tab
- Burn SBD to gain faster voting power regeneration
- Burn SBD to get a little extra boost when voting on a post
- Burn SBD to get a temporary Steem power boost
- Burn SBD to purchase an additional account
- Burn SBD to purchase a community account name
I am sure this list has its flaws, but I wanted to get a conversation going about the promoted tab and ask if its something that you think Steemit needs?

I like the idea of SBD for boosted voting power.
Or what about SBD for special highlighting in the list results, like a boarder or banner/ribbon to make it stand out more?
That is a very good idea as well, I think anything that helps the community is a good thing.

I have promoted one post since I've joined Steemit , at the time it did work , in that I made more on the post than I spent on promotion. That was soon after I joined , really I just wanted to test it out , see how it worked or if it worked. I seriously doubt I will use it again though. And honestly , I never really check the promoted tab anymore , as I have enough posts to go though in my feed and under the new tab (which are the only ones I really use, mostly anyway).
And i think the option for faster power regen is good , that and the temp Steem power boost , that one could make things pretty interesting :)
The promoted tab is pretty much a waste of space for the most part now, I think it will eventually die out. Steem power boost and faster power regen would be pretty awesome.

This site shows how much it costs to get to the top of promo page. Clearly, not meant for small individuals! Less than a month ago, a $20 spend would get you in top-10. Not anymore.
We are better off purchasing whaleshares or requesting randowhale for a vote! Promo/ new/ hot sections should be customizable for each user and we should only be able to see specific categories etc. in them.
I would rather see the things you mentioned built into Steemit instead of everyone selling votes like a crooked election. It would be much better to buy those things and have the Steem dollars burned in order to help the entire community instead of a few whales. So many people want to be able to customize what they see, so I feel like its going to be a feature eventually.
I am trying to get my wife an account, but no avail. Any idea how I can get her on here. We already tried with two different emails. We even got the phone confirmation number but never got the "activated email" from steemit.

yup. I thought it was something with the flood of new applicants. But, since then I have turned 3 other people on who have active accounts now. My wife is pissed. lol
