The Most important Issue - A world full of religious people : IFC - S1 : R30 entry

Do you ever wish certain things in the world had more attention put towards them?

The world is full of very religious people. Very many of us belong to one religion or the other, and fundamentally, religions preach love.

According to some estimates, there are roughly 4,200 religions in the world - wikipedia

Yeah, I read that about 75% of the world's population practice one of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism or Judaism, but there are thousands of other religions with fewer faithfuls.

While Islam has been linked to terrorism time and again (which clearly does not typify love) some concerned Muslims continue to denounce terrorism as a misinterpretation of Islamic principles. Even the traditional and so-called barbaric religions preach love. So Overwhelmingly, religion teaches love.

So I was thinking for this challenge, I want you to create a blog post about what you think the most important issue is out there that needs more attention put on it in your opinion.

Like why is the world so devoid of love when there are so many religious people? Why is there so much anti-love behaviour?

There are soooooo many things that demand more attention in the world today but there would be a lot less of such cases if we simply loved as we are commanded. Sounds utopian?

For Christians (and pretty much like in other religions) God says: Love Him with all of you (in order words, please him, do what he says) and love your neighbour as yourself. So, how about we actually, really, do what God says? How about the religious houses talk more about this responsibility that has been placed on us?

Sure we want to be successful in life and WE love to hear that WE are free of the influence of evil forces and WE want to live happily after life ... but a little consideration for the neighbour? How about offering support when you can, treating her like you would want to be treated?

Loving our own selves isn't going to be that difficult for most, we are inherently selfish anyway, hence God's commandment. Surely, if we loved God it wouldn't be so difficult to love our neighbour?

And you know what? Believe it or not, doing this will simplify life to a good extent, we'd probably begin to wish for some anarchy for excitement!

What, you are not an adherent if any religion? Well, I do believe it's important to believe in God for our own good. What would a person's life be like if he thought himself to be the be-all? It sure would reflect in the way he treats other people, don't you agree? Who's to question him?

And belief in a sovereign God helps you through those 'insurmountable' problems. Some people believe in karma and it's a check. Believing life is one chance ball with no consequences is very dangerous for the believer and all around him.

Now, many of us than will care to admit have occasional doubts about the existence of God. You are certainly not a leftist if you do. As a matter of fact, if you think about the kind of questions I asked in a previous challenge it might lead you down that road, but I personally have come to a realisation that a belief in the existence of God can only be for our own good. The pros are weightier than the cons. In fact, it's a recipe for happiness for those who diligently seek him, as the Bible says, and I see the evidence of this around me.

So fellows, how about we pay attention to this core demand of our faiths instead of playing religion? How about letting our love for our neighbour be what shows God that we love Him? How about you simply practise what you claim to believe?

This is my entry for the Information Finding Championship (IFC) Round 30: What is the most important issue?

Thanks for reading!

If everyone loved others the way we love inanimate things. People would not have such a heart problem!

That's really funny, but how true!

It truly is! I know it all boils down to allowing love in our lives no matter what!

I like your message! I sorta disagreed with a few points, but your overall message is superb! Just love and care about each other more, which I think is so important.

why is the world so devoid of love when there are so many religious people?

This is a powerful set of words, and a good question. My issue is I believe we are all religious. To me the word religion both ancient and modern simply mean a set of beliefs about how you look at the world.. I think we all do this even if we don't associate with "Christian" or "Buddhist" or whatever. I think even Atheists and people who reject the idea of a God are religious, because that is their belief system, their set of beliefs and way of looking at the world.

I think the only other thing I disagreed with was your use of the word Anarchy which simply means "no rulers" which is what we should have if everyone just loved each other like they love themselves and didn't try to rule them.

Besides those couple minor things in regards to language/definitions I highly support the message! Even though I don't really believe in a "God" myself. I tend to look at "everything" as God. So I'm close to what you would call a pantheist.. I think God is the all that is all, all that has been all and all that will be all.

Great entry thanks!

I suppose that's why the bible says ...i am that i am...i am everything!

Indeed except some suggest there's suppose to be a comma there after that. So it would read.. "I am that, I am" which is essentially what I think you were suggesting with the way you said it. But yeah.. I am that.. That = potentially everything.

Anything you can point to, I think you are.. And probably even stuff you can't point to! Lol. Took me a long time to get to this belief, I resisted it most of my life cause it was weird, but.. The more I learn the more it makes sense to me.

I meant anarchy as a state of disorder which is the meaning I was used to. And I said it tongue-in-cheek actually... As a matter of fact, after reading your comment,

I think the only other thing I disagreed with was your use of the word Anarchy

I thought, "Oh no, I never used that word." Then I looked through my write-up and behold ...!"

So I've just learnt this other legit meaning of the word, thanks to you; and yes... pantheist too!

Really interesting. Thank you!

You're welcome! Glad to help others learn something new. :) It's a word I've grown to appreciate more and more, but before I knew what it meant.. I was sort of.. Scared of it.. But sometimes when you understand something it becomes a lot less scary! Unfortunately a lot of people misunderstand anarchy and they think it is chaos in a bad way, but to me.. It's freedom in a good way. I don't think anyone really wants to be "ruled".. But I suppose there are some who may really feel that way.. Deep down though, I think we all wanna be free!

I agree, like apolymask with a lot of what you say. And if all the "religious" people believed in God, the we would be living in the Anarchy that God has given us. Why do we need rulers if we allow God to rule us? People profess a "belief" in God, and they think that is enough. People need to learn a knowing of God, not a belief. Know that he exist and you no longer need to believe(pretend) he exist, you know he does.

True, true. That's deep.

Great insight. The reason I've stayed away from organized religions (despite appreciating the wisdom they teach) is this contradiction between that wisdom and actual practice.

Maybe people seek shelter and safety (two primary needs) in their religions, but still don't know how to love. Loving others is a skill that must be learned and taught. You'd think it is natural, but applying love daily in the complex world of humans is a lifelong learning process.

It is, @wholeself-in. Yes, we have needs that we want met in religion and we will love to happen. But it won't. We need to decide, then consciously work at it. Thanks
