As a voluntaryist,
I take a principled stand for the liberty of the individual to choose his own course in life, provided he harms no other. This of course includes the right to use anything that, in his own final judgement, is beneficial to his health and well-being, and that of his family.
As a Christian,
I am appalled at the very idea, and even more so at the acceptance of the idea, that human government has any authority to declare a God-created, God-given plant "illegal."
What utter nonsense!
Observing that ongoing struggle, here is a limerick I wrote:
Marijuana: That ~Damn~ Plant!
~A Limerick~by Duncan Cary Palmer
God created a health-giving weed
that makes Pfizer and Merck profits bleed!
The've tried hard to smash it
with their DEA hatchet,
But the damn thing keeps going to seed!

We have a DVD set of that series, but have not as yet watched it...
we liked it! I think i missed 2 of the episodes... but it really challenged a lot of what I formerly believed!

I was just on #general briefly today to learn how to submit a fiction contest entry to The Writers' Block for feedback... ;)
What about the verses that talk about doing nothing that would lead your brother (or sister) to sin?
What about the verses that talk about being of a sober mind and a pure heart?
Don't get me wrong, I used to think the same as you but the more soul searching I have done leads me to believe that God doesn't want me using the plant for anything... not even for the healthy benefits.
What do you think? Is the main question I am asking here.

Slow to reply here because I hate to just "toss off" some glib reply to serious questions like this...
On the other hand, I can't put off answering forever, and so here goes:
While we do need to consider the effect of what we say and do on our brothers and sisters, we can't "walk on eggshells" all our lives to do that. We have to always "speak the truth in love." I am convinced that we have done far more harm to our siblings by toadying up to the state in all its evil forms than by being careless about what we consume or even discuss consuming.
God created and gave us every green plant, and it is up to us as individuals how to use these gifts responsibly. As I best understand things, marijuana can be used in ways that have no psychotropic effects whatsoever, but are definitely therapeutic. For example, CBD oil can be extracted from the plant.
But not to avoid other issues - I also believe that it is an individual responsibility to choose what to use or not use. I would never encourage someone who has issues with addiction and addictive substances to use marijuana, alcohol, or other similar substances. Having said that, I see nothing inherently wrong with their use in moderation, accompanied by self control.
I would say unequivocally that it is none of the state's business to coerce anyone to use or not use any substance.
Hmm, very valid point of view and I appreciate the dedication in making sure you replied with a well thought out response.
Keep doing what you feel is best and it is great to have someone so level headed in the position you are in.
I wish the best for you and if God has anything wrong with what you are doing then may Him be the one to tell you.
