What's the One Food You Really Hate?

Hey, everybody! Here’s today’s contest here on Steemit.

Everyone has a food they don’t like, so this one should be easy!

For this contest you simply need to comment about your least favorite food. Hit Reply and let ‘er rip.

For example, my comment might be:

pastrami or corned beef (it's the texture, ugh)

The Deadline

This contest will be open for 7 days. When this post pays out in 7 days, the contest closes.

So be sure get your entry in early!

The Prize

The winner will earn half (50%) of the SBD earned from this post!

As the "judge," I have the final say on who wins.

Rules To Play

Here's the important part (the fine print). Be sure to follow these rules or your comment / entry won't count. There are only two! It's simple!

  1. Think of a food you really dislike. Hit Reply and tell us what it is.

  2. Upvote this post. The more people who upvote, the more the payout will be. It's as simple as that.

That's it!

NOTE: If you write anything along the lines of "good post" or "upvote me!" or "follow me," you'll be disqualified. That contributes nothing and is just spammy, so don't do it. Please!

Winner Announcement

After 7 days when the contest ends, the winner will be either randomly chosen or I will choose a winner. I will announce the winner that day (or the next day in case I get busy or it's late in the day and I'm snoozing).

For this contest, I'll pick the winner!

The entry I choose may or may not be something I personally like or dislike, so don't say "pastrami or corned beef"! That'll get you nowhere!

I'll just pick one.

Spread the Word!

Let your Steemit friends and followers know about this contest so more can play! It's easy and hopefully this will be fun and not too gross.

Remember, the more who play, the bigger the prize will be.

So, feel free to Resteem this post or link it to promotion groups. Thanks for playing!

Coriander... It's the stuff nightmares are made of!

Ah, got it! A second vote for cilantro / coriander. I happen to love this stuff but I think you either love it or hate it!

i’ve read that Scientific research has proven that whether you like cilantro or not, is partly in your DNA...

That sounds familiar. Sort of like whether you like dark chocolate.

I didn’t know that one. Gonna look it up immediately...

Was I right or did I dream that up?

Okay, @simplymike, I found this article: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/quora/why-does-dark-chocolate-t_b_3985674.html Basically people who eat a lot of sweet stuff (me) find dark chocolate too bitter. Makes sense.

I read that too!

I completely agree :0)

I love the seed coriander, I hate cilantro. It tastes like Windex.

Hahaaa, it is one of those things you either hate or love... I love it. I pick it fresh out of the garden and just chew on it. You want the younger leaves though, the older leaves can be quite bitter and I find the stores can be bad for that. When I add it to the top of a curry or salad, I can never have enough, sometimes you can barely see the curry for the coriander! I never use to like it but now I can never have enough : )

I pretty much love cilantro too! And I've learned lately that it's really good for you.

Oh yes, it's REALLY good for you, that and parsley...
It is an acquired taste though! : )

So true. Fortunately I like both cilantro and parsley so I'm eating them more often lately.

Same... a salad without parsley in it now a days is just dull and boring. Parsley just gives it a good kick of flavor! ; )

Is this scary thing lettuce?

Thank you for this post

Um, thank you. To enter you must comment with a food you don't like so go for it! And be sure to upvote it if you want to be entered. Thanks!

I really hate this worm salad.

Uh, it doesn't look good to me either.

yeah, you're right. it makes me feel sick

Oh my!!! Thanks but I have to pass ...

I think I can eat it if its deep fried..haha

Just one? I am extremely sensitive to textures so there are a LOT of foods I can't stand. Probably the food whose textures bothers me the most is a mushroom. I shudder just thinking about eating one.

I am sensitive to textures too so I get it!

I went to California one time and had a grilled portabella mushroom sandwich. The shroom cap was as big as a beef patty. It tasted much better than I expected it would. I havent seen one anywhere else like that. Mushrooms are not on the top of my favorite foods but they are not near the bottem either. I can take them or leave them.

I would like to see @millennialnow eat one of those since he likes mushrooms so much. :-D

Aww @queenvick, big bummer! I say that because though I am not a huge veggie consumer, mushrooms - any and all, I just love!

It's interesting that one of the reasons I love them is BECAUSE of the "texture" and it's the texture that "shudders" you - hehe! You see, I LOVE MEAT! Mushrooms taste more "fleshy" than veggie, in my mouth anyway!

What foods do you enjoy?

My husband is a huge mushroom lover! We argue about pizza toppings a lot because he likes mushrooms but not black olives and I like black olives but not mushrooms.

It's interesting that you compare mushrooms to meat. I sometimes struggle with the texture of certain meats. I like both chicken and turkey but both can rub me the wrong way sometimes.

I love salads. And I love Mexican food. Tex-Mex too! That pretty much sums up my favorite foods.

Thanks for the reply. I feel like I've learned something about myself thanks to your meat-mushroom comparison.

This whole mushroom discussion reminded me that as a kid the only mushrooms I ate were wild morels that Mom would batter and fry. They were wonderful! Then I had those weird canned ones and the texture of those were awful. Now I like all mushrooms. Go figure.

The only food I can't stand is cods tongue, as I was forced to eat one as a kid. I have tasted it later but the old feeling made it come out again fast.

No thanks. I'll pass on that one too.

Hey I just saw this @peggyhazelwood! Great contest...so simple and easy, but everyone can participate :)

Cooked eggplant! ick! It is so disgustingly slimy, without much flavour at all!!

For me it's lamb's kidney, YUCK! It doesn't look great uncooked but then when you start cooking it, it has this strong vulgar odour that then lingers right throughout your home. Then... if you try to eat it, it's a rubbery texture that tastes ten times worse than its odour. My husband loves to have steak and kidney, me... NOT! I cooked it for him once as a good gesture but never again! It's foul!

SL103-Lamb-Kidney-Raw1.jpg
Not my image.

That is one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen! :) Right up there with this I saw at our local grocery store in Mexico:

That does look gross... I'm not sure if I could pick that up. My butcher has all these kinds of cuts and I have been willing to try more things of late that I wouldn't usually but nothing like this. I bet if you knew how to cook with it that it would taste nice though... I have heard the cheeks are really nice. Maybe I would try it if someone else prepared it.

Ya I couldn't pick it up! The locals say the meat from it makes the most tender pork tacos though :) I'd have to eat it before I know what it actually was haha

Hahaaa... yeah I know what you mean! : )

Well, yuck. If your description didn't turn me off that photo did!

Yep I agree.. I struggle to find anything positive about it!! It is YUCK!!

Ieuw!! 😱

Thanks! I just need 2 (or 3) of me to keep up with all of this now!

Hi @peggyhazelwood when I up-voted this post I wasn't aware I was entering a competition. Your title about the foods we hate I was attracted to and therefore I got curious of others dislikes or whatever, so had to open the post. However I always comment regardless on all posts I up-vote, so I guess doing this here I have entered the competiton.. So Good luck to me. LOL

I am a lover of most foods whether Chinese Indian etc. I'm easily pleased, however and like you said we all have a food we don't like, whereas in my case I have a couple.. in the savory section its BUTTERBEANS and in the sweet section POMEGRANATE I have no other reason for not liking these, other than the way they taste.... hehehe

@racykacy, I understand. I happen to like both of those foods but it really does just depend on taste!

Oh no I can't see me winning this competition now after we don't see eye to eye on specific foods... oh well you can't win them all... on a more serious note @peggyhazelwood other than how a food looks--- taste has to be the most common reason of all for disliking a food. Stay safe @racykacy

Oh don't despair! I'm going to come up with a creative way to pick a winner on this one. Some I agree with (I hate that food) and other foods I like. No sweat! Be sure to check my other contests. I usually will use a random generator to pick the winner. This one I just wanted to mix things up a bit.

Yay go for it girl...

Lamb. On so many levels. Cannot eat it. One weekend I went to a camp with my cousins. We all took food, booze, treats. My cousin, who is a great chef, took racks of lamb and that was the main food event for the weekend. We got there by boat and there I was. Lamb or nibble carrots. I nibbled carrots.

Oh, I feel your pain. I get it! I could be a vegetarian very easily because of, you know, where meat comes from! Thanks, @joannereid!

I have thought of becoming a vegetarian. All I have to do is say no to the meat-loving cook in the house. Hmmm.....now I have an idea for a little exploration for my next healthy plan.

Hmmm, just one food? My first thought was peanut butter. I cannot stand the texture! I do like peanuts though. Just cannot deal with the sticky, mushy-ness of PB!

Isn't that interesting! I love how we're all different.

Oh that's an easy one. Liver and onions. When I was young we were forced to eat fried liver and onions to "help prevent anemia". It was torturous. I remember we couldn't leave the table without eating it. We would pile mashed potatoes and another other vegetables upon a tiny piece of liver and somehow swallow it. I think those were the longest dinners of my life. My sister would just cry! Not sure if it had it's intented effects! :) Good contest! I'll be anxious to hear the other replies!

Yep, I get that one. Actually, I am so weird that I liked liver and onions as a kid but don't now! How strange is that?

Mom used to say, oh we're having steak tonight and I thought that was wonderful. Until that disgusting liver showed up on my plate. The only thing worse was beef tongue. Oh yeah, vegetarianism is looking better all the time.

Oh, ugh. I agree!

@peggyhazelwood, if I were to pick one food that I can't stand it would be durian.

durian-fruit-2789048_640.jpg

First off, I need to apologize to all of my Indonesian friends who love durian. They call it the King of Fruit.

I don't like it because of the smell and taste. Both remind me of a mix between garlic and smelling gym socks. I also do not like the texture. It is both creamy and stringy at the same time.

During durian season, we would drive past street vendors and could smell durian in our car. It is an experience everyone should try once, but one I care not to repeat.

haha, your description made me laugh (and gag). I don't think I'd like something that smells and tastes like garlic and old stinky gym socks either!

It is an acquired taste, and I haven't acquired it yet!

hahaha durian is famous here in the Phils but I haven't tried one yet since I live far from that province that grow them.

I think that everyone should try it at least once. It is an adventure! You have to work hard to cut off the spicky shell.

I will try that soon when I get the chance to go to the that province. I believe it needs to be experience as well. :)

@sumatranate, I am deeply grateful for the heads-up! I am food adventurous but I draw the line at food that smells like "gym socks"! Funny description! Mind you, I love garlic, but the smelly socks ... not going there! So yes, thank you!!

Don't knock it off before you try it yourself 😉

When something is highlighted on Fear Factor you know that it is going to be an experience.

It's made the Bizaar Foods list too. And I think it was a rare something that Andrew Zimmern didn't like. 😕

I love and hate foods largely depend on texture and a durian sounds like a fruit I would absolutely despise because of its texture. But if I ever get the opportunity to try one, I definitely will. Just once. To say I have. :-)

Great attitude! You should definitely try it.

I used to think you are related to Indonesia somehow, due to your last name 😀

Looovveeee durian 😂

I am from the United States, but I lived in Indonesia for over 10 years. I loved living there and meeting some many wonderful people. I enjoyed a lot of the foods I tried there.

That's awesome

Salam kenal 😊

My girlfriend lived in Indonesia for a while, and she told me about how aweful durian smelled. She didn’t try it - because of the smell - but she also told me that there were hotels where was written at the entrance that you couldn't bring durian in there because the smell would annoy other guests...

I can only try not to imagine - lol

I saw the same signs. Durian was not allowed in many hotels. The smell is very strong and distinct. Most westerners do not like it, while most Asians do.

My husband tried once, the first time he visited Indonesia and he fell in love with it 😂

So odd I have never seen such sign at hotels in Indonesia (at least not in East Borneo, Central Java, Lombok, Jakarta, not even in Bali - not at the hotels I visited and/or stayed at), but in Singapore

It was like 20 years ago that she was there, maybe things have changed over the years ;0)

the uncommon meat.. like the meat of the snake, dog, cat, goat and other animals..i called it uncommon because its not like pork, chicken, fish, and beef that is regularly for sale or of human consumption..

I hear you. That turns me off as well.

I am with you on that @dizzyapple! No insects or domestic animals for me either!

i agree with you @kismet2018..i still wont eat it even if others tell me that its the most delicious meat.. i think its disgusting and by just thinking of it..i feel like vomitting..

I hate Brussels sprouts!!359D80C0-C72B-4479-A959-FE32200F9698.jpeg

What? The baby cabbages? They are an acquired taste. Thanks for playing.

I do too, but there are others I hate even more!

Oh these are one of my favorites!! :D
YUM!!

Really?? Not me 🤢

Lol, yep! We tried growing them last year so we had lots... they never grew properly though. We steam them and then roll them through a little butter with a sprinkle of salt... so good! Brussels sprouts and broccoli are my top 2 favorites! : )

I must admit I did have them once at a restaurant, I think they were fried or cooked over a flame and they were pretty good! I'm not a huge broccoli fan either. Those 2 foods are really good for your health though :)

Lol... I think if they're cooked right they're not so strong and over powering. They are both very good foods for your health : )

My favorite way to fix Brussels sprouts is to roast them in a pan with a little olive oil, salt, and pepper (hot oven, 450 F for about 40 minutes). They are so good!!

I do not like the condiment mustard or anything with it , I find the taste repulsive ewwwkckghhhhhhh

It is a strong taste, for sure!

One of the food that I can't stand is called the pig blood curd. Lol I know, the name itself is shocking. It's also known as "blood tofu" or "blood pudding" and it's famous among the Chinese, especially the Cantonese people. It's actually made of pig's blood and it's said to be nutritious. Can't eat too much though, or one will risk getting iron poisoning. Honestly it doesn't taste bad, you won't taste the blood, and if you eat it with your eyes closed you'd actually think it's tofu because of its texture. I just find it repulsive and weird.

Okay, that sounds totally weird. I went to China and had hot pot with blood poured in. I did eat some but oh, that was strange as heck to me!!

sounds a bit like Black pudding

😱
Here in Belgium we have something we call ‘blood sausage’. It is a sausage made from the organs and blood of a pig.
So aweful...

Im a not so basic white girl in the fact that I hate Avocados!! The taste, the texture... I just cant do it! That and cabbage! Uuughhh, the smell of cabbage cooking is enough to kill! Anything that smells like that will NOT be entering my mouth!

I've heard of another person who has a problem with the texture of avocados. And the smell of cabbage is not the most pleasant!

The first time I ever had avocado was in a restaurant back in the 80s, when it was new and unknown. I was with a work group, and my boss proudly gave me a bit to try. As he eagerly watched, I gagged at the texture. Talk about embarrassing. I still don't like it.

Yes! Its terrible!

I have never liked green peas, I really hate them, every other vegetable is ok to me, but green peas is a total yuck!

Poor ol' green peas can't get no love.

When I was a kid, green peas were the only vegetable I liked. My brother hated them though.

I love them! My favorite way is to cream fresh peas. OMG. So good!

Never tried them creamed. New baby peas fresh out of the pod is my favourite way.

Yes, me too. Creamed is with a white sauce. My mom used to fix them that way and they were so good.

I just hate steamed okra or lady fingers. the seeds are like fish's eyes and the gooey stuff is like saliva. ewww. but most people like it. but not me.

I love fried okra and pickled okra but agree that the steamed stuff is less than appealing.

I loathe red beets. I know they are supposed to be good for you but they make me heave. The texture, color and taste are all equally disgusting. This vile vegetable is void of any positive attributes in my book. I have heard that beets are a super food, I say that they are a super-bad piece of garbage not fit for a farm animal.

I always think that beets taste like the soil they grow in. Yuck!

And beets are one of my favorites! I am a total weirdo though so that's no surprise!

Thats what keeps the world going around. I am so happy that you like beets because that means I never have to eat them.

Gerkins FFS why does every burger place put Gerkins on the feckin burger.
I always have to dissect my burger before eating.

haha! Isn't it funny what gets up worked up? I get it. I don't always want all that stuff on my burger, especially gigantic rings of raw onion.

lol I chop the onions up too. If I am in a diner I will also ask for a side lettuce dish and a fried egg, Luv burgers with an egg too

It’s hard to pick one. I don’t like nuts or sushi, but I think I’do go for the worst: cilantro (or coriander) ... yuck , it tastes and smells like soap.

... but cilantro is not ‘food’, is it?

So... ehm.. my final answer would be... liver. So aweful!!!

If your dog gets worms, Liver is good to feed the dog to get rid,, on the minus side , it also gives them the shits, so feed early in the morning and leave them out in the yard all day

Since I'm donating to the prize pool, I'm taking back my entry
I didn't want to delete it because I gave it a lot of thought -:0)

I'm leaving you in this contest because your answer(s) was awesome! haha!

I am with you on cilantro. I LOVE many forms of Mexican food and always forget that it's very common to top tacos and other foods with cilantro. I don't mind cooking with it, but I hate to smell it or eat too much of it.

I think you came up with a very original contest idea.
Sent for a resteem to the @anupbose resteem service.

And I decided to add 2SBD to the prize pool
(it's not a whole lot, but I'm still recovering from getting hacked)

May the worst food win!!!
@simplymike

Okay, I see that the 2 SBD has gone into my wallet. Thank you! I'm so new to this that I want to be sure I understand what to do. I will add whatever this post generates (half of it, that is) to the 2 SDB, and that will be this contest's prize. Is that right?? @simplymike

Yep! :0)

Perfect! Thanks again. SO... everyone, read this!

@simplymike has donated 2 SBD to add to the pot. Whatever this post generates, half of that amount PLUS 2 SBD will be the winning amount. Yay!!

You can edit the post and change the prize pool, so it’ll be more visible (you don’t have to mention my name)

That's awesome!!! Thank you @simplymike!!

@peggyhazelwood, what a light-hearted, "unintense" contest! Well done!

I had a hard time coming up with something I "could not stand". I enjoy most normal "animal protein", except for insects and domestic animals - hehe.

Then I remembered, I have not been able, in 58 years of life and living, to bring myself to eat frogs legs! Why? They still look like the frog, of course! I would probably eat it if it didn't LOOK like it's living "form"!

So here is my entry - "Frogs Legs"

Thank you again for this game and to you @simplymike for resteeming!

Upvoted, Resteemed, Following

Friends at #newbieresteemday, let's play this one!

piZap_1520634219981.jpg

I agree, because of what they look like, I wouldn't try them even! And everyone says they taste like chicken, but I'll more than likely never know!

I am with you on that one @peggyhazelwood!

Mmmm frog legs... with a lot of garlic.. irresistable ;0)

Hehe @simplymike! I love almost any meat with garlic, but it can't LOOK like it did when it was breathing! If a steak look like a cow I probably wouldn't/couldn't eat it - hehe ... same for all meet and animals, coming to think of it!

I have the same issue, but for frog legs, I gladly make the exception 😜
What about fish: that still looks like a fish most of the time. For some strange reason, Most people with the same issue don’t have that problem when it comes to fish - me neither. That’s weird - lol

True @simplymike! Fish for some reason isn't as "EWW"- though I prefer filets or "fish steaks"!

Great idea for contest @peggyhazelwood and belated welcome to Steemit, you're doing so good so far! I found you through the good folks over at @newbieresteemday, specifically @simplymike who I see has contributed to the prize pool. Awesome!

One of my least favorite foods is undoubtedly refried beans.

It's almost not fair. Regular beans don't asked to be treated like this. I mean just look at these little guys, refried beyond recognition! With an appearance like this, who'd give their personality a chance? Refried beans could be delicious for all I know, but I just can't get past the look, texture, everything, yuck!

That is why whenever I'm out for Mexican food you'll always here me say "Hold the beans, double rice please" :)

haha, that photo really does make refried beans look appealing. I like them but have noticed this problem before. Covering them in cheddar cheese does help! And thanks so much for playing! Check the other contests (3 others so far and more to come). Nice to meet you, @starthere!

I meant unappealing. You know what I mean!!

Freudian slip maybe? Are you sure about your feelings towards our refried friends? :)

Thanks so much, I'm following you now so will try my best to play once in awhile. Again, you're going a great job on the platform so far, keep it up!

Refried beans? Who comes up with such ideas.
My best guess: you must be British. Are you? 😛

Ha, no, I live in SE Asia, but I'm a Californian actually! You'll find this in all the Mexican restaurants in my area. Now you got me wondering though: who came up with the genius idea to refry a bean? Maybe a newbie foodie will take on that post!

Where are you from Mike?

Belgium. Since the British are know here for their lack of taste when it comes to food, refried beans sounded like something they could have invented - lol

Agreed! My sister studied in the UK, so I've been through there quite a lot. The food is rough! Maybe we'll see an entry to this contest that just says "All English Food" :)

You guys are giving me ideas for new contests... (rubbing my hands together maniacally!).

Hey @simplymike, Belgium is where my family is from :)

Really? So you’re part Belgian then?

Yep! My dad's side 100% Belgian:) Mom if French.

You just triggered a memory for me that I hadn't thought about for years: I remember as a kid, every summer going to a huge party in the park kind of thing, organised by the local Belgian community in Ontario, Canada, called "Being Belgian is Beautiful" :) We all had t-shirts with the slogan too. And I would always eat enough fries, and Belgian waffles to kill a horse haha

This post was resteemed and upvoted by @anupbose and @apukb and for Upvote and Resteem to 1390+and 860+ Send 0.100 SBD or STEEM with URL in Memo thanks to @peggyhazelwood

When we were kids we were allowed to pick a food at New Years that we didn't have to eat all year. I hated fish, so I always picked fish. Then one day, several years into it, we had steak and kidney pie.

It was disgusting. Not the steak, but the kidneys. The next new year I picked kidneys. My mom asked if I was sure, I said undoubtedly that I was. That was the worst food I had ever had.

My problem was that we ate fish at least once a week. We had steak and kidney pie that one time. I had to endure over 50 meals of fish that year and I fixed up my decision making strategies after that.

So in answer to your question, STEAK AND KIDNEY PIE!

That is the second vote for kidneys. Luckily I've never had to try them and don't plan on it!

I like the idea of picking a food to not have to eat. That's a cool idea. I hope you learned to like fish!

Pete.jpg

This is bitter bean, in Indonesian called petai.I hate this food because it smells rotten when finished eating it.

Well, that sounds totally disgusting! Why do we eat smelly food anyway?

But many also like it. According to them this food is delicious. LOL

It's not disgusting when you know the trick how to not have bad aroma after eating the beans. People would chew raw rice for a bit and mouthwash rinse really helps.

I miss eating stinky beans, they don't have these beans in Canada 😂

this one favorite food for petai lovers, except for me, hihihihi
now in Indonesia is petai season jeng :D

Seriously?????

Wow, I don't think we can be friends anymore then jeng, I loovveee stinky beans 😂😂😂😂 especially in sambal (hot sauce)

Rhubarb, because it is sour nasty stuff.

Well, I can understand that! I had an aunt who made rhubarb pie and used so much sugar it was delicious!

If it is cooked well, and that does mean with sugar :D its beautiful! Add it with apple and it's even better!!

Coming to this a little late. Other peoples picks - I like or don't mind some (beets, peas, kidneys, liver)and hate some (brussel sprouts, avocado, okra). But my absolute worst food, that made me gag as a child, is cauliflower.

And cauliflower makes an appearance! It, like cabbage, can be a smelly vegetable. I understand.

It's not just the smell. Its like my body just instantaneously rejects it. Dunno why...

I make rice from cauliflower : )

I can see that it's a very useful food, especially for people who don't eat grains or carbs. But sorry, still "boak"!

It is hard to say since I eat what I can buy, know and am able to prepare. I am not picky but I would not eat some organs like brains for ecample, insects that easily. But hungry is hungry

Both excellent, awful choices!

I really hate to eat shrimps :

image
When I was a little girl, we sometimes would eat loempia's and there were those little hard pink shrimps.

Uurhhhhh.

It is the structure of it... No I won't ever eat it again.

Love 'em but I understand!

Mushrooms! I absolutely get disgusted when I have them in my mouth by accident. The texture is horrific to me.. And they are ugly too :) lol i27434-fricassee-de-champignons.jpg

Mushrooms are getting a bad rap. I can understand your reasoning though.

Hello :)

I tasted Haggis in Scotland, and it was the worst texture food, believe me. I ate my meal out of respect for my hostess, but never ever again.

I've heard about that food but am not sure I could do it.

Okra. It's like styrofoam covered in mucus wrapped in suede leather. 😲

Your very descriptive language made me laugh out loud. Cracking up!

When I was about 4 or 5 years old, I truely thought that was what it was!

What a fantastic contest - I love how this has engaged so many! And how different tastes we have, my absolute favorite tastes are avokado, coriander, shrimp and sushi. Frequently on this list of other people’s cannot-stand I see. 😂
So to my cannot-stand food: chicken liver in Cream sauce! Absolutely hate it, was force fed it as a kid, still makes me feel queezy just thinking about it. 😝

I don't think I'd like chicken liver in cream sauce either.

I love most of the food, except animal internal parts (ugh!!)

Kidney! I remember my parents making steak and kidney pie and picking out the kidney
