I could not help but think of this meme after reading this post.

You should hear Xavier's story. He died at 17 and essentially rebuild his entire understanding of ego and consciousness.

So yeah, that kind of stuff. :)

Someone close to me had a overdose induced NDE and the peculiar thing is they seemed to retain consciousness of who they were *on the other side".

They were still "Bob" in other words. The reason this is significant as some would speculate that we lose our identity im the hereafter but perhaps we don't.

It's interesting to think about. I'll go ahead and give a listen. Sorry if the meme was too flippant considering the depth of the subject matter.

Memes are always appropriate, even when they are not. That's what makes them memes. :)

Heheh, nah, all good. We had a very fun conversation, not too serious, though definitely covering some very interesting (and serious) topics.

Very interesting about keeping that identity. I think that's part of the NDE stuff people describe where they come back instead of rejoining the absolutely oneness, almost as if they new they were going to come back which is why they didn't give up their "Bob"ness.

Subscribed! Excited to hear this entire conversation. Thank you, Luke.

I read both but numerology is a bit out there for me where I'm currently at. Seems too much like apophenia to me. It's clear you put a lot of work into these, but they just don't connect with me right now. I do appreciate you sharing though. :)

I had to look it up:

Apophenia (/æpoʊˈfiːniə/) is the tendency to mistakenly perceive connections and meaning between unrelated things.[1] The term (German: Apophänie) was coined by psychiatrist Klaus Conrad in his 1958 publication on the beginning stages of schizophrenia.

That's a harsh assessment but I appreciate your honesty.

Have you seen the examples of large enough datasets where you can pretty much find whatever you're looking for if you get creative enough? I see it as a form of confirmation bias where the millions and millions of things that don't match (but maybe should, if the process was rational and reliable), are easily thrown out as we focus on the things that do. We are pattern matchers as a species. We see patterns everywhere, and we make connections based on those patterns.

For example, if years aren't significant we can use months or weeks or days or even hours, minutes and seconds. If we have enough meaningful numbers like 888 or 911 (or any inverted version of it) then we will statistically always be able to find some pattern we describe as meaningful.

I guess I'm missing where the meaning comes in. Is the idea that someone orchestrated these things in some way to send some kind of message?
