It's really hard to beat the simplicity and usability that youtube has. I've tried 3speak but it's still missing so much compared to youtube and most importantly stability(I won't know if a video I shared will be there and loading very quickly in 3 months vs with youtube I'm guaranteed to have it there).
In some countries both are blocked. Even 3speak in some... the only option is to bring the front ends back into the user side. So the only thing they need is to P2P download to watch.
What do you miss on 3Speak compared to YouTube? We would be very happy to get some feedback and improve things.
3speak is very stable, reliable and easy to use after @mantequilla-soft took it over and basically reworked everything from the ground up. I don't find any video from you ever in the database but guess you used a different acc there and that you tried it months or even years ago. Times and products change - please give a try and let us know your findings :)
The biggest thing is picking any random video and getting it to open. If I pick a video that's a few days old, the chance of it loading has been near 0. I've talked with @meno about this and he said it's related to the IPFS backend but I'm hoping they move away from it. (Though I did just try and load an older video now
%2Fgmbftybb and it worked, maybe this issue has been fixed in the last week?)
I've posted from @rishi556.lambo so that's why you don't see anything from me. A lot of it has been initial testing to see "hey can I move here instead of youtube". 4K support would be great, but not a big priority. I also had issues with upload speeds before, but maybe this has been improved too. I'll give it another try later this week as a creator and share feedback.
Thanks for the quick feedback and for giving it another try :) Yes, we had issues with ipfs and node architecture in general, but that got fixed by adding fast "hot nodes" and general bug fixings by @meno. If you now pick any video (even the 2 year old ones) they will play. With video age the playback will take a few more seconds but that's an issue with ipfs in general. Excited for your feedback for sure :) (4k support will probably never come tbh)
When I'm at this page, I noticed that my video wasn't uploading in the background. Nifty little trick that most systems do is start optimistically updating stuff, so here if you guys started the upload process knowing that most users would finish it, it would make the final upload page shorter and a better experience :)
I've used similar tricks to make loading appear faster even though it might not be in places
Yeah we got this suggestion from multiple users because this was the upload flow before we switched the whole backend. It is already in my dev instance and will get pushed out soon :)
I had the same issue on multiple files, but eventually did fine one that worked. Def would be annoying if I was trying to upload stuff and it just didn't work with no way to fix it myself.
That is fixed in my dev environment now and was related to the automatic thumbnail generation. This (and the inline preview) could happen to not work because of the codec of the video (like in your case). But you will be able to upload and it will go through the upload pipeline just fine now :) Next update it will be fine!
The 5 gig size limit is also pretty low these days honestly. My phone can record much bigger files. Yes I know how to compress, but does my mom? No. Since the full file size is temporary, I think holding onto bigger files for a little bit should be fine?
Yeaaaaah but the file size does not just affect one server but 2 (embed upload and then the community encoder node). I will discuss that with the team and will get back at you here :) Thanks for the suggestion!
NP! I think with the temporary notion of things it should be fine? Generating files over 5G is pretty easy these days, from my phone I can generate that with literally 5 minutes of a recording. The videos that my friends record are usually as high quality as possible and I've regularly seen 2-3 min videos that are 1-2G big, so when they want to share larger ones, they'll get hit by the limit pretty quickly and that will get offputting.
I will have a debate with myself over this, hopefully win the debate, and lose it at the same time. I take your point, I get your point... but, you would be surprised how uncommon anything bigger than 5 was. maybe once a month.
Yeahhh, currently we only have one single upload endpoint, which is super fast if nobody else uploads something lol. I have prepared logic so we can host multiple upload endpoints, and will take that live soon. We will only have 2 endpoints for now but it will be much better already. More to come if we experience more parallel uploads of course.

So, put it on utub, and somewhere else for us utub refusers?
Bitchute is very stable.
Didn't know about this one.
It was banned in england for not censoring things.

Testing the upload flow now. First thing I noticed is that I can't drag and drop into this box:
With how many other sites allow it, I think it would be a good idea to support that too.
yes agree - on it :)
edit: update is live and now you can drag&drop :)
Thank you, already so much nicer!

Awesome!
The update is live and uploads start at the descrition step now :) Also the multiple upload endpoints are live now!
When I try and upload a file, it gives me the following error:
Tried refresh and such but still no joy. I've uploaded the file here for you to look at: https://codeberg.org/rishi556/RandomHiveStuff/src/branch/3speak-video/IMG_9459.MOV

Also noticed that uploads are EXTREMELY slow:
Can't get it to go any faster that 3mbps up. My parent's home's upload speed isn't great but I can get up to 30 uploading elsewhere.
This is the upload speed when running a speedtest btw

Nice! Are you guys geo distributing your upload endpoints? Might help a bit if latency is part of the problem.
To remind me to get back to you :)
