Rejected

in #creativecoin5 years ago

I took those shots two years ago as part of my portfolio that I submitted for evaluation to stocksy. If you don't know what that is, let me copy a part from their site:

Why should I join Stocksy?
Stocksy is an artist-owned cooperative that was founded upon the principles of equality, respect and the fair distribution of profits. We’re a community of artists + creatives that believe imagery should be always be fueled by artistic fervor and integrity — and stock is no exception. We believe in collaboration, transparency, and leadership in ethical business practices so being a Stocksy contributor and co-op member means you have the opportunity to drive business direction through elections, resolutions, voting and annual general meetings. Your voice matters.

Doesn't it sounds too good to be true?

For me it does, so although I had quit photography as a full time occupation, I hadn't updated my technical knowledge nor my equipment for more than a decade and I hadn't dedicated enough time to built a solid portfolio I thought that I might deserve a place there.

Of course I was rejected :)

Deep down I knew it in advance, but it was the awakening need to identify myself as a photographer again that made me to give it a try. In those two years that have pass, I want to believe that I have evolved as a photographer and I am now preparing myself for a second try!

I have made my self evaluation and I have come to my conclusions about the first attempt but I am sharing those pictures now, exactly as I submitted them back then, because I would like to hear your opinion.

Where do you think is the main fault of those images?
In technical adequacy?
Artistic angle?
Storytelling?
Something else?

I would be very glad to hear what you think and there is no need to be kind. Your personal view is good enough for me!

All the pictures were taken with my Canon EOS 7D and all the words are mine.

Well I really like the leaves in water shots, I wouldn't change anything about those. The others are maybe a bit too bright/overexposed for my taste, I tend to like low key approach better for nature shots and woods in particular. But still, a nice collection of photos :) Cheers

I'm no expert in photography, but I feel that they are a bit excessive on the light tones. Personally I would bring in a bit more shadow, and darken them up a notch. But it's really a matter of taste. Still good shots and nice place, where is it?

Agreed, most are overexposed or with spots with too much light, even the leaves on the ground with the sky reflection seem to be a bit too much.
Adding shadow is always more difficult or problematic to the image, you can always try to photograph with light below what's recomended, and it's not easy when you have so many shadows / light spot, but you can then try to "pull" the light up on post processing.
Keep shooting

They seem like they're framed pretty well, but the angle seems slightly off ideal.
Not a huge fan of the motion blur either, but that's artistic choice.
Better than many professional shots I've seen though. #JustSaying
