I'm not feeling particularly creative, these days, so I decided to change gears and hire stand ins
let's call them ghost illustrators as they can't really write, yet.
My 6 year old niece and 8 year old nephew felt like the right pick to replace me, as I basically trained them myself, creatively ( and in many other ways ), together with my twin sister.
Sorry, bro in law, you're not the most creative person I know, haha, atlhough you're better with your hands than me in many other ways
My niece and nephew spent a day and a half ( and of course a night ) at my place, from Friday morning until yesterday evening, and - aside from two walks ( what we call 'adventures' ), grilled cheese sandwiches and ice cream at the local cafe, lots of playing, lots of eating, lots of talking, 4 movies! and many more activities - painting and drawing had to be part of the deal.
Usually I partake in this too, tagging along or co-creating with them, but this time I merely let them create, while I prepared some food and witnessed them.
I remember my nephew asking me, yesterday afternoon, whom was better at drawing, my twin sister or I?
I merely answered by telling him that we have very different styles but that I'm spending more time drawing than my sister, nowadays.
The little man sure knows how to ask challenging questions and so does his sister, when she isn't asking for candy ( although that is a tricky one in itself ) ;<)
They're both sweeties, although my nephew isn't as much as a sweettooth as his younger sister, unless you count ketchup or pancakes. When he can he will go for a natural sugar ( like banana on pancakes haha ) ;<)
Let's say that the youngest needed to paint a little more than just the paper but her brother kept focusing on his work...
...so I gave her some much needed attention.
Later that afternoon she was enjoying food with some remaining water color paint as an extra ingredient. I was kind enough to remind her to clean her hands a little more haha!
Here's some pictures that the two of them created, using nothing but watercolor paint and their imagination:
Here's a few of their paintings, drying in the sun. We had to take them inside, before the rain returned, about an hour later.
Just working on this post, remembering yesterday and the day before and sharing my niece and nephews creativity, makes me smile and seems to re-ignite my own creative fire.
I hope this brings a smile to your face too and I'm already looking forward to sharing my own creative process, once again, soon.
TO BE CONVINUED...
Oh and I admit, the dino was mine. I drew that one last thursday, during a co-creation session with @clareartista and @theastone I just wanted to test your sharpness and find out if you actually read my entire post ;<)
I spotted your handy work @vincentnijman but then I was in the session when you created it hehe ;-)
Beautiful post about inspiring creativity in your younger relatives! :)
haha, you were there, indeed. Glad you enjoyed this write up :<)
I love kids' drawings/paintings, they're the cutest XD
They sure are cute but so are most of my illustrations. Cute is my middle name ;<)
I knew that dino was yours hahah, what a nice day, children can bring out a very special and sensitive side in us
You're sharp. Children are great mirrors of the kid inside of us. An important side that we often repress when we grow older.
This is so beautiful dear Vincent! What gorgeous creative work and day! 😍😍😍😍🙏🤩
It was a fun day indeed. Sun day, fun day ;<)
Hehe, and thanks for the mention, along with @theastone.... I don't always read the small print, but spotted it in my notifications too 🙏
