Debates are healthy to have. You have diverse opinions and information being exchanged in an attempt to argue a certain proposition or set of propositions. We should always question what someone claims, and verified to see how accurate their claim is. Information presented in a debate provides the propositions that we can then validate ourselves.
In a debate, both sides aren't correct. One is correct, and one is wrong, or they are both wrong. Someone can also be willfully and knowingly presenting false information, which is otherwise known as lying.
If you get caught in a lie, you should admit it. Because information can be presented to corroborate the fact that you did lie. Information can be present to show that something was not the way you said it was, and you knew that it wasn't that way. That is a lie, as opposed to merely providing false information without knowing it's false, while believing it to be true.
But with the case of Anthony Fauci claiming there was no gain of function research taking place and funded by NIH/NIAID, that was a blatant lie. There are records to prove it. Even after a moratorium on gain of function research was issued in 2014, the funding for the gain of research was continued through Eco-health Alliance into Wuhan, China.
Yet, rather than admit this research was happening, Anthony Fauci lied about it. His organization directly funded this research. And then when presented with the facts that the research was going on, he continued to deny it and even denied that he lied. Instead, the NIH/NIAID decided to change the definition of gain of function by removing that term and calling it something else instead.
When Fauci was criticized and attacked for having wide, and the continued deception regarding funding gain of function research, he has the audacity to claim in an interview that attacks on him are a contempt of science, that he himself represents science.

It's easy to criticize, but they're really criticizing science because I represent science. That's dangerous
The hubris. The arrogance. It's astounding.
Imgaine any scientists claiming that they represent science. Would it fly then? Why is it flying just because Fauci says it?
No one, or any group, represent science itself. You can speak of the science, scientific papers, or data, but you don't represent it all in it's entirety. You can be wrong.
But Anthony felt she wants people to believe that whatever he says is science itself, is true. To criticize him is to criticize science and that is dangerous, according to him.
This is how absurd things are right now. Rather than admit he's lying, he's doubling down and saying that other people who criticize him for lying are the liars. Even though we have the documents that prove that the organization he heads and that he had knowledge of, was funding gain of function research.
Through manipulating the definition, and removing the word phrase itself and substituting it with another well don't stand up, he's trying to convince everyone that he is the honest one when he's doing all of this manipulation and lying about what he did.
This is like a classic psychopathic behavior, or someone merely has to deny deny deny everything. And even when there is evidence that you are lying, you just keep denying anyways, gas lighting people about what actually happened in trying to create an alternate reality the contradicts what actually happened in reality.
The people who go along with this have lost the ability to think critically. I don't know how anyone can swallow this BS. If Trump said this I would laugh out loud at the ridiculousness along with everyone else, and would hope everyone else would. It's absurd for anyone to act like this, I don't care what their political affiliation is.
