You still gotta sell, then average back, this is from a point of view where you are fully invested and do not want to ride the bear market to the bottom.
Averaging back in is good, to not miss read the bottom, both tactics should be applied but will cause the same volatility no matter what, you gotta sell early in bear markets in any case :) We do not like losses here!
