LimeBike - Seattle Bike Share Review

in #crypto7 years ago (edited)

Today, my girlfriend @maiya.akhmet and I decided to try out a bike share service we've been noticing throughout the city. This one in particular is called LimeBike, but there are a couple other competing companies that offer the same service in the city.

Walking around Seattle, one cannot help but notice the random bikes scattered around town, propped up on the side of the road by themselves and, from a distance, seemingly unlocked.

After setting up an account through the app all you have to do is enter a payment method and scan the QR code on the back of the bike. The lock on the back tire retracts and away you go. You then have access to the bike for as long as you want. I think the standard rate is $1 every 30 min, however, we found a promo code online which gave us three 30 min rides for free.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this service or one similar. It's pretty awesome that you can just start riding a bike and drop it off wherever for a very reasonable price.

As someone who has been actively following the crypto space for some time now, I can not help but be reminded of Slockit. This project was seeking to create smart locks which could be opened by sending a payment to a smart contact on the Ethereum network. The whole process of scanning a QR code to unlock a lock feels exactly how I imagined it would work. Haven't heard much about Slockit since the DAO fallout, but I still think it's a really good idea!
