The referenced article did not say, but I duckduckgo(gled) who it was without giving any clicks to self-deluded news organizations. It was Brad Sherman that showed his complete lack of understanding. He said that bitcion takes power from the Federal Reserve. I say, "Yes it does, and currency debasement takes power from the people."
But none of that will allow anyone to ban or approve the use of bitcoin or any other distributed ledger coin. One hour on a search engine, plus a few live neurons, would prove useful in avoiding embarrassment for this poor law-maker.
Can they ban bitcoin?
They can write up a ban, but that will not change anything. They could ban plankton from swimming in salt water too, but like bitcoin, plankton are almost all the way decentralized. Brad would have to get in his boat and behead each little plankton in order to enforce his idiotic ban. He would have to do the same to kill all the bitcoin nodes in the world too. Both examples are impossible.

I do not use bitcoin because of the year long Western Union fee schedule they used in 2016, but I hold many of the other four or five thousands coin options. Most of them easily fly through OnePageEx and come out the other end as bitcoin or any other Swiss asset you may need.
Avoiding KYC and Documentation
It is important to find services that do not ask for identification, AKA Know Your Customer schemes. These are not what they seem. They only exist for the purpose of telling the government how many coins you have traded. After many years of laughing and telling us that there is nothing backing crypto-currencies, they now want to tax us on these laughable things that are not even money.
I will stay with their initial assessment.
That they are not interested in something as silly as bitcoin. I think paper with dead presidents printed on it is silly. If I stop using their paper, they can stop taxing me on my crypto holdings.
