Dear Crypto: We need to cover the basics first

in #cryptocurrency6 years ago

You see it everywhere these days. ICOs offering the "next big thing". Changing the world through their technology and offering a future where everything will be connected through the blockchain. Just look at projects like Nucleus Vision where they promise a "Nucleus Vision Powered World" by 2021 and you have the chance to be part of it by investing a small amount of money to fund their vision.

Cryptocurrencies and the Blockchain are taking babysteps towards mass adoption. Most probably history is repeating itself and we are observing something similar to the internet in the early 1990s. But history is also repeating itself by overpromising and underdelivering at nearly every front. A new technology invites us early-adopters to dream about the possibilities and that's a good trait. But at the same moment dreaming shouldn't stop us from covering the basics first.

Nucleus Vision is only one example of many, many ICOs out there promising to disrupt entire markets by introducing the blockchain. I highly doubt that. The first steps towards a world where blockchain really shines are mass adoption and usability. And we haven't achieved this fundament at all. Although most people heard of "Bitcoin" or "The Blockchain" just very few understand that a Bitcoin isn't the same thing as a Blockchain.

We need more "grounded" projects. The announcement of RobinHood offering an easy way to get into Cryptocurrencies and allowing people to get invested into it was a blessing for the technology itself. We need good and steady exchanges. There are a lot of ICOs going on right now offering solutions to widen the ways people can get involved with CryptoCurrencies. Projects like Dimensions Network or CoinMetro. We need projects inviting people to get involved with the technology like SaveDroid, the BAT or our very own Steemit.

These projects are covering the basics. And in order the dream we need to cover these basics.

I hope you enjoyed this little post. I'm new to Steemit and I would really appreciate some feedback!
