I was asked in a PM/DM on Discord why I don't upvote my posts in the beginning to get more SP curation rewards:
I was wondering why don't you upvote your own posts in the beginning?
Won't that leave you with less benefits in receiving steem power if you vote after everyone else does

I leave the post unvoted so that more people/followers/supporters can upvote before me and get more curation rewards that way. This way I help my supporters get more curation rewards for supporting me :)
If I upvoted my post earlier, some people wouldn't have upvoted yet, and they would miss out on curation rewards from my upvote.
If you upvote after everyone else, everyone that upvoted before you can get curation rewards from your upvote, but you don't get curation rewards from their upvotes.
Users with more SP give out more curation rewards to those who have upvoted before them.
This is why people are encouraged to upvote earlier on posts in order to get their upvotes in before a larger SP holder (like a whale) comes along and gives an upvote.
Since I hold larger amount of SP compared to many of the upvoters on my posts, when I upvote after them I can give them more curation rewards than if they upvoted after me.
I upvote pretty late on most posts from all my curation, as I only check posts in my Feed about 1-2 times per day.

Is that how it still works? Ijust figured it didn't work like this any more. Iremember seeing seomthing about it awhile ago and how voting early gave more rewards but as time goes on from 0 minutes to 1 hour the best possible reward is if something has no votes and you vote at the one hour mark.
If you vote right away, you get 0 curation rewards. If you vote at 30 minutes, you get the most curation rewards potential for your SP weight applied on voting. People with more SP get more curation rewards than those with less, as they increase the potential payout and therefore get more in return.
You want to vote early in case someone with more SP, and more people voting, start to vote, so you can get more curation rewards.
Anyone can vote after anyone else but you get less reward potential from curating. Anyone that votes before gets more curation potential that those who vote after, according to their SP weight applied. A whale will always get most of the curation rewards no matter when they vote, because they are a whale who is giving more potential rewards to the post.
It's all about SP you have applied and the voting weight applied, vote power applied, and also the time you vote within 30 minutes, and the people who vote after you. A whale voting after you will give you more curation rewards than if you voted after them.

I guess that makes sense... My problem is that I can't sit for long at a time so I have to upvote stuff when I see it or it's gets lost in the spam!
Very cool you do this, I've done it on a few of my posts, sometimes I use the vote bots later too so my followers can get more rewards. I haven't been using many bots lately though
