Curie Comment Contest

Earn Steem by leaving good comments on posts upvoted by @curie!*

*Only posts which receive a @curie vote through Curie curator/reviewer operations are eligible for this comment contest. PLEASE NOTE the @curie account casts many upvotes which are not part of Curie curator/reviewer operations. See below for two methods to tell what posts have been upvoted by Curie through curator/reviewer operations:

  • Visit becquerel.io to see a record of the most recent posts upvoted through Curie curator/reviewer operations and leave thoughtful comments on them for your chance to win!
  • @curie also leaves an automated comment on all posts upvoted through Curie curator/reviewer operations, so alternatively you can visit the @curie blog comments to find eligible upvoted posts to comment on.

How do I sign up?

There is no need to sign up. Simply commenting on posting upvoted through Curie curator/reviewer operations makes you eligible for the Curie Comment Contest.

The contest week will run from Sunday 15:01 UTC through Sunday 15:00 UTC

Curie will use an algorithm that evaluates comments on both quantitative and qualitative metrics. This means that in addition to the number of Curie-upvoted posts that you comment on, the quality of your comments will also factor into the score. In addition we will look at other metrics designed to measure engagement with the authors that Curie upvotes.

THE EXACT ALGORITHM AND METRICS USED TO GENERATE THIS SCORE WILL NOT BE REVEALED TO HINDER ATTEMPTS TO GAME THE CONTEST

That being said, one of the most important metrics is simply the number of Curie-upvoted posts commented on during the contest week. For reference, here are the top 20 commenters by # of posts commented on for this contest week (you can tell by comparing this list to the actual placements below that there are definitely other factors that go in to the contest scoring, but at current contest participation levels if you leave a good (non-spam) comment on just three Curie-upvoted posts a day you would definitely be in the top 20 places that pay out :)

Win up to 15 Steem!

Curie Comment Contest winners will be announced in a weekly post. In addition to the prize payout structure outlined below, the weekly champion will receive an honorary role for the week in the Curie Discord server of "Comment Champion". Bragging rights!

1st place (Curie Comment Champion): 15 Steem 2nd place: 12 Steem 3rd place: 10 Steem 4th & 5th places: 8 Steem each 6th & 7th places: 5 Steem each 8th & 9th places: 3 Steem each Honorable Mentions (10th through 20th): 2 Steem each

Total weekly prize pool: 91 Steem/ 20 payout positions

Spam Comments will NOT be rewarded

The comment history of all winners will be manually reviewed for spam before any prizes are paid out. Short generic comments that could have been left without reading the post will not qualify for the Curie Comment Contest. Examples of spam comments include (but are not limited to): "Nice post"; "I like your post"; "Nice picture"; "Good song"; "Great story", etc.

EGREGIOUS SPAM COMMENTERS WILL BE REPORTED TO STEEMCLEANERS

A few words of advice on leaving good, thoughtful comments

- tell the post author what in specific you liked about the post, why you liked it and/or how it made you feel. If your comment is so generic that it could have been left without reading the post, it will not qualify for the Curie Comment Contest.

Curie Comment Contest is picking up Steem!

We increased the payouts and expanded the number of prize placements this week because the Curie Comment Contest is working to drive engagement toward the authors upvoted by Curie. Comparing the first four weeks of the contest with the four week period in July immediately preceding the start of the contest, we have seen an 86% increase in the average number of comments / Curie-upvoted post. Curie-upvoted posts with < 5 comments dropped from 18% in July to just 3%over the first 4 weeks of the contest!

Let the wild rumpus begin!

So what are you waiting for? Start reading those Curie-upvoted posts and leaving thoughtful comments already!

Congratulations everyone!! Janton definitely does deserve to be up there, he is great with engagement!
I am happy to see new faces around, Curies is definitely doing a great job! Thanks curie for increasing the prize pool!

Congrats on another strong week of commenting @audreybits!

Thank You! It was a great week, hopefully, we'll make this one even better!

Thank you so much! I continue to enjoy this task. I am finding so many interesting posts I would not otherwise see. I will keep on keeping on and and I will NEVER get to 73 posts, so no one has anything to fear :)

hahahahah! You are free to get up there, I believe you can (well, if there are less creepy stuffs)

Nope! Still avoiding the creepy ones :)

They ain't all that bad...

lol - I am easily freaked out and have a weak psyche!

Oh, I get. It's not for everybody, really.

Nice to see your name popping up every week consistently @fitinfun! Makes me happy to hear you are finding posts that interest you :)

Thank you! This has been a great time for me. I have learned so much and definitely would never (had never) have seen these posts without your push. I am so happy to see the excellent jump in your stats. Engagement is the name of the game, for sure.

Thank you so much @curie! This really is a great initiative. Upvoted and resteemed for more participation! Congrats everyone!

Thanks for the resteem! We are starting to see more participation in the comment contest, and I hope this thing really takes off as we head forward.

I hope so too! It is so refreshing and inspiring to see all the amazing work by so many different Steemians. May I ask, can we comment on all the posts in https://www.becquerel.io/ including those that have passed their payout or just those still within the 7 days payout?

Good question! Yes you can comment on posts upvoted by curie that are past the payout window and it still counts for the contest :)

Posted using Partiko Android

Cool! That is good to know :) I can go back to those I missed earlier. thanks @carlgnash!

Posted using Partiko iOS

Yup :) I think you are the first person to ask this question, and this was an intentional thing on our part when setting up the contest - the 7 day payout window so often means that content basically disappears and is forgotten about once that week is up. Encouraging readers to go back and read these awesome posts even after the week is up can only be a good thing. I know as an author here myself, it makes me happy when someone comments on one of my older posts but it is super rare!

That is true. I would be too. And it is sad that we no longer can upvote to contribute to posts after 7 days. Wonder if they can change that? That way, we can revisit the good old posts and the authors still get some earnings.

Nice

Yay, thank you @curie! And congratulations to all winners! 😊

Congrats....@macoolette you nailed here👌 was not at all aware of this contest...

Posted using Partiko Android

You should participate @steemflow! I know you are a great commenter as well, I see your name up near the top of @abh12345's League of Excellence as well as seeing you in the comments everywhere :) If you are looking for authors to engage with you could do worse than reading and commenting on the awesome authors that Curie upvotes! Cheers

Thanks @carlgnash i am just trying to make my presence count with user engagement as much as possible. Never knew about @curie commenting stuff. Would definatelly be part of it. The standard set by curie is really terrific...to get on that standard need to be at my best. Just need a base to carry on either becquerel or discors approved pozt....hopefully to get over on it

Posted using Partiko Android

Thank you!

Then how did you know about this? What are you doing here? You're not supposed to be here adding to the contenders! 😂 Kidding aside, you should join the curie commenting and join the league of those who want to unseat @janton. 😂

Hahah...while walking in sleep i dreamt of you and janton taking away all the prize money 😜...so thought of helping you both ...heheh

Posted using Partiko Android

Just as I thought, you're stalking us! Thank you but we do not need help for this one... 😂

Okay now, see you on the list next week. 😉

Hahaha......not this time....i am already late here.....so may be next week

Posted using Partiko Android

No, you fooled me. I starting doing my rounds last night and I saw your comments from hours ago. :(

Nice job moving up out of the "honorable mentions" into the placements @macoolette!

Thank you! I wish I can maintain to keep moving up. 😊

This is fun initiative and a great way to engage more and discover more quality content ;) I like the idea! The incentive is quite generous too.

Thanks! We felt good about increasing the payout structure this week because across the board we have had some really committed readers giving good thoughtful feedback to the Curie-upvoted posts.

Cool! I've bookmarked the page for those comments and already I've followed 3 new people who are writing things that I'm into.

Many thanks @curie and congratulations to the others!

Hello @curie. Let's grow altogether on steemit.

Hi curie. I feel sad right now

Sorry to hear that - nothing related to Curie I hope?

No, nothing related to @curie but i feel @curie could help.

My account was hacked into today and my steem was siphoned out.

I wish @curie could help spread the news and let it be a news flash to all out there that "hacking of accounts" is real and still happening.

I also cry for help to @curie if they could help me get my funds back.
💔

Awww I am very sorry to hear that. Often you may not even be aware you clicked on a link to an external site, the password phishing sites are you usually set up to look exactly like steemit.com and have the same URL minus one letter that is different but looks similar. Usually the way it works is that you clicked on a comment that had a link to another steemit post... only it wasn't actually a link to a post on steemit, but rather to a post on a nearly identical website that looked just like steemit. Then the fake site asks you to log in, and when you do they have your password. I have to ask - presumably someone else already has talked to you about this, but are you aware that you should never, ever use your active or master key to log in to the website? Make sure you are only using your posting key to log in to the website, reserving use of your active key ONLY for when you are making a transfer or doing something else in your wallet that requires active key permission, and even then only after confirming you are actually at steemit.com or whatever other front end you like. If you follow that simple step of only using your posting key to log in, you can never have your account hacked like this.

Very sorry and good luck :(

Thanks Bro. Really

You always come up with good ideas :) And it is cool what this pages makes :) and I've been happy also when you've been browsing my page sometimes...Thank you!! .
And I am also considering doing it for you in the long term delegation, when steem more up I can make it.

And this is definitely a big and great job.

Congrats @janton you are already a super commentator everywhere. Already on top in Asher league now in @curie as well. Pretty hard to outshine you. Great going bro.
Also Congrats to each one of you...you guys rocks👍

Hi @curie we need to put our comment on only those post which are upvoted by curie. Right? Not to any curator reviewed posts. Becquerel.io is showing few posts which are yet to be upvoted...

Posted using Partiko Android

hmmm that should not be the case - if there is a post showing as approved at becquerel.io but which does not have the @curie vote on it, that is an error. Can you give me an example? Maybe the blockchain was acting up and a vote didn't go through.

But to answer your question, for this contest the primary way to score points is to leave comments on the posts listed at becquerel.io or in the Curie discord "#approved-posts" channel. This is to differentiate from the (much smaller) Curie votes that come from Curie following the curation trail of various communities e.g. Steemstem, steemiteducation, etc.

Ohh thats sounds like cool idea...i figured one post yesterday when first time accessing becquerel about missing curie vote.
Thanks for the great way to identify curie posts at becquerel. Hopefully you will see me around sooner 😉 more often

Cool logo :)

Whoa! This is some really great contest, how come I'm just getting to know about it now!

A great thingy that the prize has been expanded though, the idea behind this sounds like a simple idea but it's actually very very much game changing. Oh, the things it would do in the long run! Curie already brings the right upvotes to the right contents and now what a better way to bring the right comments to the same right content too! Kudos team!

@nevies

Cool hope to see your name up there when I check the comment numbers next week! I agree, it is a simple idea but many of the best ideas are simple :) I have always thought that good commenting was under-rewarded on Steem blockchain, particularly considering that receiving good comments can be just as important in retaining users here as the payout feature. Cheers

Quite true @carlgnash. We want engagement with quality posts but everyone is busy writing because it's more rewarding, whereas, there are people who truly enjoy reading but do not care much about writing. An intiative like this will get real interested readers unto quality articles.

Just peeped in the discord channel after a long while. I have definitely enjoyed the few @curie upvoted posts that I've been priviledged to see. I look forward to joining in the contest this week. Winning is a different story altogether, but I'll try my best.

this is a very cool iniciattive you have here, encouraging to interact with each others in the community, cheers for you!

Yes that is exactly the idea! Thanks :)

hello i'm new here i want to improve me and thank you for nice idea

Congratulations to the winners, it is good to see that this project is paying off!

Congrats to everyone who made the winners list! I am much more of a reader than a writer. Seeing a bit of extra Steem show up in the wallet is a very nice bonus.
Thanks @curie for the contest and the prize.

Congratulations to the winners!

Hello congratulations to everyone and thank you so much:)

continue to succeed in steemit. Hopefully this article is useful for others to be an inspiration. and continue to create scientific works.

very good idea for support to Steemians and Congratulation to winers.

Congratulations thank you curie:)
