Did you know that GOLOS moved to their own EOSIO fork? Cyberway

in #cyberway3 years ago

For those of you who don't know Golos, this was basically a fork of Steem made by the Russian community, they took the Steem codebase and made changes to it.

They kept working on their own codebase until they realized that maybe there was a better blockchain technologie out there that could be leveraged for Golos.

You know, the same guy who built Steem, Dan Larimer (@dan), actually built a nice piece of software called EOSIO. Yes, the bandwidth mechanism of EOSIO kind of sucks, especially the RAM management. EOSIO is a smart contract platform, a fast one. It's as centralized as Steem and Hive are, meaning that the witnesses/block producers can decide to "block" your account if they wanted to...(remember what happened before Hive was born 🙂)

Anyways, the Golos community decided to fork the EOSIO software and build their own version that would address the current issues with the bandwidth mechanism (amongst other issues: events, storage, Ricardo contracts, etc...). That's how Cyberway (@cyberway) was born: https://cyberway.io/.

So, now they basically have Hive running on their own EOSIO software (https://commun.com). That means that, it's a Hive version that can be easily upgraded without hard forks (because it's all smart contracts)...

Are you going to keep building on Hive or will you start thinking out of the box and consider using other technologies? EOSIO? KOINOS? The Golos community did it, why not Hive?

I'm definitely considering building on KOINOS, to me it "will" be EOSIO with a better bandwidth management? But, we'll see, there aren't much technical details available right now and it's actually hard to get answers from the team...(Meanwhile, I'm going to play with EOSIO!)

Let me know your thoughts, did Golos make the right move by moving to EOSIO? Will you consider building on KOINOS?
