As often as possible, I like to try to spend a few hours exactly as an animal would, we are animals after all. What do animals do when they’re well fed, well slept, relatively comfortable and not being driven primarily by their hormones? Whatever the fuck they want to. They just allow the situation to guide them.
They’re legs are tired and they rest. They see something fun or interesting and they approach it. They don’t worry about whether it’s strange or practical or profitable. They just do what feels good. They don’t get anxious about the future or regret the past. They don’t feel shy about petty things.

image link, holy crap this dude is cute!
They know things instinctively because they’re minds are clear and free of meaningless chatter. I love watching dogs climb up mountains. They rarely make a wrong step, even when they’re speeding past their “owner”. They often know which rocks to step on without a glance. They don’t fear death unless it jumps out and threatens them.
If we could just go where our curiosity and excitement took us, we could do it even better then they do. We could align our interests with the interests with all around us, and with all of life, and just have a good fucking time.

Sometimes we need ourselves to act more natural. Its true, when i see my dog racing over the rocks he never misses a step. (4 legs also helps :D)
Also the not caring on what other animals think makes it so different from how foolish we sometimes are acting.
Do you think animals can be bored? I heard something once about depressed dogs because they are not challenged enough sometimes
Absolutely! Can you imagine? It's torture for dogs! My dog definitely gets depressed when we don't go anywhere for a few days. Imagine sitting in your house doing literally nothing. You can't read, watch movies..... you have nothing to do. No mental stimulation. It's a terrible problem. Dogs are pretty smart. And they need to socialize with other humans and other dogs and have stimulation and learn things. And they need off leash time! They need to wander around in the woods and smell things and have time to be free.
I feel so too. They need the time to explore! Also if you are walking them on a leash, give them time to sniff on stuff. Activate those brains
This isn’t why I don’t really want animals unless I live somewhere where we can let them run free fairly often, a village where we know everyone and without lots of cars.
I’m sure they get bored, but usually only when they’re locked up at home! Thats why some animals become so dependent, because they lose the excitement of being outside and the ability to explore when we keep them inside. I don’t think their boredom feels much like boredom when they have their freedom though, it’s just kind of like “nice....sunshine...”.
I was actually inspired from this post and wrote one about my dog at home hahaha. He doesnt cope very well with being inside. Usually I have him on the porch where scents fly by and is stuff to see.
I agree, dogs are not ment to be inside the whole time..at all
Yeah, totally. If they're wanderin' around they probably happy as hell. I always wonder about dogs who are in yards with fences. Like, not yards with woods and stuff, but just those pretty small yards with grass. I see dogs going crazy running along the fence wanting to get out and see all the things, and I wonder if that's torture to them. Either way, the house and the fence both just feel like a cage to them I think. When I first got my dog he was real bored and I posted on reddit and asked about some fun toys for him. Someone said something that stuck with me. All I have to do is exercise with him for one hour and he'll sleep the rest of the day. And he's absolutely right. He loves sleeping the whole day if he gets that hour.
I think you are right, they really just need a little time to do their thing and enjoy their day and then they are good.
Ha we're linked in to the same creative frequency this morning.
P.S.
I did this yesterday. My God, it felt good. Usually when I do this I totally do think what I'm doing isn't practical or profitable. Why are Americans so obsessed with productivity?! (I don't think you're American, but.... maybe you were?)
P.P.S. Probably my favorite post of yours. :) I really like the bit about the dogs going up the mountain. It's totally true. You've conveyed so much in this post succinctly which could have taken a lot of words. A sign that you've mastered it. Fitting of its first tag. :)
I was, I guess technically still am but it always seemed like a devine mistake to me, even if there are no mistakes, just kind of a cosmic joke for me to laugh along with
This is exactly what I have been doing this week @whatamidoing. After our conversation on Discord and asking myself again how I want to spend my time I have returned to the Unfolding Path.
It has already been an interesting couple of days and I have found myself, amongst other things, clearing out stuff from my past. Today I threw a way the paper copy of a book I wrote and sold a long time ago that no longer has any relevance to my life.
I am enjoying doing what ever comes next and looking beyond that.
Right now what's next is my walk along the sea front to get my coffee and setting off today's vlog to upload while I'm gone.
Hope you are having fun too! 😍
Will you link me to the Discord channel you all meet up in?
If you're referring to my chat with @whatiamdoing it was via private message @brightstar, rather than a group. I think he might have a link to his group at the end of his posts but I am not certain of that. 😊
Ha you're totally right; he does. Yay I'm in there!
Yup! Are you? I didn’t see you, I’ll have to look harder!
Yeah, I said hello in there. :)
:-) I’m glad you are feeling much better and back in the flow of things!
Watching dogs is a most relaxing thing to do, for that any watching any animal feels good. As for ourselves, we are in deep shit really. Never able to keep aside our baggage and truly do what our heart desires.
Well said, well said. For us humans, though, such carefree attitude has become a luxury. In this freaking intellectual world where we're literally locked in all the time, its very rare to see somebody doing a thing for the thing's sake.
That's why I make friends with the one who goes to the rooftop alone with their guitar or a pen and paper when they are not into the music or conversation downstairs.
If you can't find it, just be it.
a very well thought out post! Life we be so much easier if we had the lack of worries like certain animals.
If you get a chance look at this.

A user by name of @haejin is abusing the system , taking rewards for shit content. Stuff you write is with great thought and meaning, and deserves much more. We have talked in the past(lost the discord you were apart of sadly :(... ). If you can, please check out my post, upvote if you like, and help with the campaign by flagging abusers like haejin!
I know about it, trying not to be too consumed by the drama though, there is so much questionable activity on the platform, if he can exploit some of the weaknesses of the platform, perhaps it’ll lead to a positive change where people can’t abuse he system in the same way. In any case, I would rather spend my voting power on all the great people who interact with quality posts.
Animals and young kids/ babies. I've got my dog and my baby to show me the way to just be. Both tell me how they're doing and both tell me what they want. Exploration is a must for both, and neither are afraid to instantly forgive either.
I miss having animals around to teach me, kids would work too
lol this gave me a little chuckle this morning. I think I will take some time out to do what the animals do today too! Great advice - more people need to think/act like this
NO! We can't do that! We have to worry and fret!
And stay in our assigned cubicles.
Nature is dangerous! Everyone knows that.
Curiosity killed the cat.
Its much safer here in our cubicles.
Sorry boss, I’ll get back to those documents for the meeting about the meeting
(Little) children are like animals in many ways. If you replace the world animal by child, it seems to work too. Except for the rock climbing.
People tend to lose their inner child, or the animal (in the best way possible) inside of them, as they grow older. In a way, what you do, sounds like returning to (our) nature. Something that I'm working on myself these days, literally. Making my way towards Portugal. Getting closer to nature.
I like the fact that you're doing this. It's very important
P.S. While reading this, I literary remember a holiday, back in the late 80s or early 90s. I was a kid then, and saw our dog running along a dangerous cliff and disappearing over the edge of it. I was scared that he would die and I wasn't the only one. He later came back, unharmed and as happy as before. He appeared to be able to walk at a place that seemed impossible to tread on. At least for us humans.
“Don’t take your 2 year old kids rock climbing?! What kind of dad are you!” That will be me one day.
I think it’s even more powerful to take this back to the land which humans have claimed, the cities. Those of us who are a little more sensitive to stimuli (a gift, not a curse!) may think of those places as being as dangerous as the cliff but if we quiet down the chatter in our mind we find they are no big deal and we can learn to navigate them by instinct, same as nature.
