Back to Basics... (Dragging myself Away from the Crypto Wonderland!)

in #defi4 years ago

It's about time I just STOPPED spending so much time online, drifting around the Crypto-Wonderland, FUN though it has been for last little while.

But it's got to the point now where it's just all getting a little bit same-y, a little bit repetitive, a little bit too much like drudge-labour.

Don't get me wrong, there is an element of enjoying in the compulsion to check on my various investments and 'jiggle' as I see fit - cycling through Splinterlands, CryptoRaiders, the Cub DEFI platforms, Hive and Hive-Engine and a few other stakes I've got elsewhere, and checking in with Discord and doing all the various Hive related duties.

The problem is I can EASILY spend two or three hours a day cycling through these, maybe writing a little something about one aspect, flitting back and forth, just 'dicking about in the Crypto Wonderland' at a leisurely pace, residing in this space that's somewhere between enjoyment and compulsion, somewhere between 'work' and 'avoiding reality', drifting more to the negative side of these equations over time.

I'm sure you've all been there, or are there, with me right now (literally if yer reading this).

(NB think about it, it is 'literal' precisely because you're not actually with me, clever huh, that's a literal oxymoron.)

Much in nothing like the same way that Bitcoin is Wrapped on various DEFI protocols, I need to 'wrap' my management of all things DEFI related. I can manage my Vest effectively with probably as little as 10 minutes most days, but I think I'll give myself a little longer than this!

I think firstly I need to cease with my 'morning checks' of EVERYTHING - I can get away with occasional checks of Splinterlands rentals at HOT times of the season (basically three days EOS to BOS) but besides that I think all I really need to do is a quick morning paranoia check of Discord just in case there's any urgent hack or crash type news that means I need to pull some funds immediately, but I really DON'T need to be checking EVERYTHING every morning.

I think for me 30 minutes once a day is when I can do MOST of my jiggling and DEFI checks, and I might pencil in a longer session of a couple of hours once a week to major jiggling around.

For me claiming yields twice a week is optimal on most platforms I'm vested in, daily on Hive-Engine because of the zero fees, and Splinterlands requires daily management, Crypto Raiders around 4-5 days a week.

I'm at the level now where I don't feel the need to be moving around micro sums of money, so any cross chain transfers I can do weekly I think, let the funds build up first rather than doing this as soon as they clear, same with adding new funds to pools, I'm happy now to let them build up liquid for longer.

Wrapping Writing...

I still regard writing on Hive and LEO as a key part of my crypto srategy, and I enjoy it, and I've refined my writing schedule - it's now 4 days a week:

Day 1 - 5 posts
Day 2 - 4 posts
Day 3 - 3 posts
Day 4 - 3 posts

NB that across Hive, LEO and my other blog and allows me to post as much as I want and need to.

So I basically need 2 days of proper writing and then either 2 afternoons or evenings, which is VERY manageable.

On average I'm looking at around 1 post an hour if I crack on with it, including research - the LEO posts tend to be quicker!

And the rest of the time it's back to the land....

I need to replace about 6 hours of online time (!) with 6 hours of being in physical space time - that's the starting goal at least.

What I'm planning doing instead of being online is simple....

  1. Clearing the land - Finishing off the strimming is the next big task, I also need to go round and start thinning out the broom that's started to come back through from last year.
  2. Building massive hugel planting beds with the cut out material - I've hit on the strategy of broom and branches on the bottom, bark (plenty of that now) next, and then a thinnish layer of soil and bought in compost and maybe manure next - i don't need to worry about planting until autumn, probably December will be a good time!?!
  3. Irrigation also has to be a thing!
  4. A whole load of other land-related tasks!
  5. Finishing off the house
  6. Making the new track look pretty (somehow)
  7. More tidying and cleaning of my townhouse.
  8. Learning Portugues
  9. Yoga Woga
  10. Walking, maybe get back into running?!?

It's not rocket science...

It's really just about getting my life back into some kind of balance!

Starting RIGHT NOW, see ya!

Sort:

That is a hefty list with some big hitters. Languages is not a strong point for me and would hope my neighbors spoke a little English at least so I could take my time learning the new language.

True. Me-Time should always be the priority afterall untitled.gif

If crypto is paying the bills then you need to spend some time on it. You can only do the physical work for so many hours before you wear yourself out. Just have to find that balance, but then I know you love making lists and plans.

Actually I forgot to factor in list and plan making into my timetable, better correct that now!

You deserve to step back a bit, you've certainly earned it here. I think the new schedule is very okay and will do just fine until you feel the need to increase it again.

I definitely support any interest in taking up running again

Yeah more chilled is good!

I must get back into running, truth!

NOW is a good time to leave the crypto alone for sure, minimal looking.

Not so sure about the blunts, maybe a beer or two!
