| In one of my last posts (about Turin: here) there was a quote by Nietzsche that the Mole Antonelliana is "perhaps the most brilliant work of architecture ever built". This made me think about what buildings I would describe with such enthusiasm. | The Hagia Sophia is a phenomenal building, and - wikipedia is wrong here - the Hagia Sophia is a church, not a mosque. In an analogous manner the Mosque of Córdoba is a mosque and not a cathedral - as it was built as a mosque which can be seen clearly. The Hagia Sophia was built by Byzantine emperor Justinian I as the Christian cathedral of Constantinople between 532 and 537. It was formally called the Church of the Holy Wisdom and it was the centre of the Eastern Orthodox Church for nearly one thousand years. | This is not a building, but a street. As I prefer a colorful collection of lots of different buildings built by creative individuals (with private money) to the megalomania of a ruler/dictator who misappropriates the wealth of a nation (trying to immortalize himself), I like streets with lots of great private houses of individuals/families. The Keizersgracht is one example. Others are the Avenue Montaigne in Paris or the Via Garibaldi in Genoa. | Dies ist zwar kein Gebäude, sondern eine Straße. Da ich eine bunte Ansammlung von vielen verschiedenen Gebäuden, die von kreativen Einzelpersonen (mit privatem Geld) gebaut wurden, dem Größenwahn eines Herrschers vorziehe, der den Reichtum einer Nation veruntreut (und versucht, sich selbst zu verewigen), mag ich Straßen mit vielen tollen Privathäusern. Como prefiero una colorida colección de montones de edificios diferentes construidos por individuos creativos (con dinero privado) a la megalomanía de un gobernante que se apropia indebidamente de la riqueza de una nación (intentando inmortalizarse), me gustan las calles con montones de grandes casas privadas de particulares. Die Geschichte der Warägergarde finde ich spannend.
danke für den link. war mir nicht mehr präsent, dass dort auch noch andere runen zu finden sind.
es ist wirklich spannend, wie das bedürfnis in vielen menschlichen wesen liegt, seit jeher spuren zu hinterlassen. damals in form von runen in mamor geritzt, heute mit der sprühdose auf betonmauern, ... .
und die überlieferte übermacht dieser krieger ist besonders beeindruckend.

Das sind alles erstaunliche Bauwerke, und es kann schwer sein, sich für fünf Favoriten zu entscheiden. Ich persönlich liebe sie alle, da sie auf ihre eigene Weise einzigartig sind.
