A month ago, I wrote about my first experiment with options (https://peakd.com/deutsch/@zuerich/update-learning-options-stacking-sats-hive) and I'd like to share my experience with you:
- Because of some operational problems with my bank (UBS), my option buy order wasn't executed. So I opened a trading account with Swissquote. Then (on 19th October) I bought some put options on the DAX and Deutsche Bank.
- Here you can see the DAX chart from 19th October until today:
- Immediately after my option purchase the DAX plunged, and within 4 or 5 workdays, the value of my put options went +140% 🚀🚀🚀
- About 2 days before the US presidential elections, the stock markets rebounded strongly and the value of my options fell deeply, so that - now - they have only 50% of their starting value.
- As this is my first experience with options, I intend to hold these options till their expiry date (which is 16th and 23rd December 2020), and to observe the fluctuations while learning about the relationships between underlying (DAX/DBK), option value and the "Greeks" (delta, gamma, rho, ...). Though, my CFA exam has been postponed to May 2021 😐
- Plus, I still think (as written in the post mentioned above) that the stock markets are highly overvalued and that some dangerous weeks lie ahead, concerning Covid-19 and the economy.
Yesterday I saw this meme, and though I'm not superstitious, who knows what surprises this crazy year has still in store...
Meanwhile, Hive has recovered a bit from the last weeks and possibly found a bottom 😃

- Etwa 2 Tage vor den US-Präsidentschaftswahlen begann eine Erholung der Aktienmärkte und der Wert meiner Optionen fiel tief, so dass sie jetzt nur noch 50% ihres Ausgangswertes haben.
- Da dies meine erste Erfahrung mit Optionen ist, beabsichtige ich, diese Optionen bis zu ihrem Verfallsdatum (16. und 23. Dezember 2020) zu halten und die Schwankungen zu beobachten und dabei die Beziehungen zwischen Basiswert (DAX/DBK), Optionswert und den "Greeks" (Delta, Gamma, Rho, ...) zu studieren. Meine CFA-Prüfung wurde aber leider auf Mai 2021 verschoben 😐
- Außerdem bin ich immer noch der Meinung (siehe oben erwähnter Post), dass die Aktienmärkte stark überbewertet sind und dass einige gefährliche Wochen vor uns liegen, hinsichtlich Covid-19 und Wirtschaft.
Gestern habe ich dieses Meme gesehen, und obwohl ich nicht abergläubisch bin, wer weiß, welche Überraschungen dieses verrückte Jahr noch bereithält...
Inzwischen hat sich Hive von den letzten Wochen etwas erholt und möglicherweise einen Boden gefunden 😃

But I don't want to underestimate the power of cronies and expansion of government authorities under the shadow of COVID-19 fear mongering and economic devastation. That can make it near impossible to draw time frames for the market based on real economic fundamentals.

It happens to me as well in crypto that sooner after I purchase the coins they plunge. As if someone would spy on me...
Regarding HIVE I believe 10 cents was the bottom and from there on we will gradually go up and maybe hit 30 cents by the end of the month.

The capital market is a place to lose money. It's an addictive game controlled by computers, algorithms and if by chance you are about to win you will be sure that something goes wrong. Well done for learning and sharing, I lovingly suggest you direct your good energies to a more productive place.
Good luck with your options trading! If you want some unsolicited advice, keep your eyes on the GDX (ETF for gold miners). All of this "coronavirus stimulus" is leading to higher gold prices, which is going to translate into higher profits for gold miners.
