If the burn doesn’t actually do anything, then what’s left is the attention it creates. Calling everyone to look, framing it as sacrifice, and wrapping it together with project names, links, Discords, witnesses, and donation options.
It's actually just an advert for your projects and you used this to call attention to it.

You can call it a statement, but statements aren’t neutral when they steer attention in a certain direction.

You say this as if its ethically wrong to ask for support, when I've been working really hard on building the very tools you probably use as well for no compensation.
If that is your values, that's fine. You can think people should not try to make a living this way. But don't impose your moral "superiority" on others.
