Are you talking with difficult people?

in #difficult6 years ago

No matter if we’re talking about someone in your group of friends or someone at work, there are difficult people everywhere.

I know it’s not easy to have a conversation with them, but there are a few techniques that will make it easier.

Establish what you want

When you establish a purpose in something, it’s important that you do it clearly. Many times we live emotions that deviate us from what we really want.

A good negotiator knows the results he wants before he starts the conversation, so the first thing you need establish is your goal.

This will help you a lot when talking to a difficult person.

You need information about the opposite team

I don’t mean that you need to know their plans, but it is useful to know why they act in the way they do.

By knowing why they act the way they do, it will be much easier for you to understand them and to talk to them.

You will be in a better position in the conversation if you’ll know that the person you’re talking to needs respect, understanding or he’s simply anxious and he mask his fears with a difficult behavior.

If they’re your friends, you can even help them if you get to understand them.

Learn how to listen

One of the best weapons in a negotiation is listening, because it opens a field where you meet your interlocutor.

A good technique of listening opens doors for expressing wishes, needs or interests. Listening can offer you clues about others’ experience.

You won’t be able to know someone until you learn how to truly listen.

Listening means to detach from yourself and make room for others. It’s a big step towards change.
Efficiency in communication will increase once you learn these strategies. Also, they can improve relationships and they will make solutions easier to find.

Thank you!

I work in retail so have to deal with staff and customers. A lot of my job as manager is dealing with people in a conflict situation so I can't really argue with any of these. The are smart and practical approaches to the situation.
