Can't disagree much here, had a talk about this with someone the other day, as comparison we've onboarded over 4000 real users in 4 years for maybe max $10k in rewards to onboarders, with over 15% still active to this day.
We need users, not brand awareness, that's for the giants competing against each other where millions of $ are nothing to them and not stifling everything being built here relying on the price of Hive.
The only things that matter as far as brand in crypto are "line go up", next is trust, with third place being technology which we have in bucketloads.
That money invested properly would mean we would be in more exchanges, have more people using the thing, and that would lead to positive word of mouth.
I've been in marketing for decades and the only bigger waste of money I have seen in that time is a UK brewery hiring the inside of a nightclub in LA for the "light", and spending more than the entire web budget on a crappy prosthetic mask that was onscreen in total 4 minutes.

Unfortunately the incentives are so much higher for scamming/milking/defrauding Hive than helping it with projects such as yours.
It is the usual problem of opensource or community work, we can't choose it over my mortgage and paying the bills, and without the right connections you can't get even a tiny drop from the firehose of cash that these "promotional" projects get.
But hey someone out there gets some free cardio so the benefits will arrive any day now! Annnnyyyyy dayyyyy ....
Dunno, I think I'd be able to get some initiatives I've been running funded, I'm just unsure how they'd scale and if it'd be worth it for the ecosystem. I'm also a bit weirded out by the dhf and the way some treat and how they expect funding from it. It just feels like I'd wanna try without it as much as I can.
I would be happy and willing to help any worthy projects with programming, content, project/product management, or marketing but right now I have more month than money so I couldn't do a lot of heavy lifting. That's why funding is so important, otherwise you only get the fun or easy stuff done.
