Improving Your Photography With @scottshots - Part 3 of 3

Hello @hyperfundit fans! Welcome back to part 3 of this series on how to improve your photography. I am Scott Thompson (@scottshots), here to help you out.

We will continue this educational series with a third clip of video from the Las Vegas Steem Creators Conference, where I was asked to give a photography presentation/workshop with the same goal, to help others improve their photography for their steemit posts. The presentation was 50 minutes long so we have divided it up into 3 parts. This third part is from the question and answer period of the presentation. This part was the most fun part for me because I love to answer photography related questions.

Nice @armandosodano! I took many painting and drawing classed before I found photography. Been seeing some great painting posts on steemit lately and it has me wanting to break out the old brushes. Might have to give it a go again soon...

So glad i stumbled upon this i just started my photography class and currently using Nikond 3100

Hello @mediacity, hopefully I can help a bit. First, if you shot the image in RAW format instead of jpg, working on an image in a program like photoshop will cause less damage to an image in the form of digital noise. Jpg's can still be worked on and I was able to make some adjustments to the jpg you posted.

What I did:

I opened the jpg in Adobe Photoshop's Camera RAW feature, but really, any decent photo editing program should be able to make the adjustments I made. I first straightened the image a bit so the door in the background was straight up and down. After the image was rotated, it needed to be cropped a touch so it looked like a rectangle again.

I lightened the shadow detail up quite a bit but then I darkened the darkest of the dark black areas of the photo so it brought back some contrast to the image and didn't look too dull or flat after lightening the shadows. I then lightened up the brightest white areas a bit to further add a little more contrast and a brighter look to the image. Those adjustments can change the color balance of the image, so next I adjusted the colors by adjusting the color temperature and tint to bring out a natural look.

I then added a touch of vignetting so the corners of the image would darken up a bit. This helped bring more focus onto the first three people in the shot.

Thank you @yalzeee! Yes, heavily editing an image on a phone can really "damage" the image compared to editing a RAW image from a dslr. But I almost always edit my phone photos a bit too. I'll keep the videos coming!

Thank you @cryprowithincin! The main dslr I use these days is a Canon 5DS R but many of my photos were shot on a Canon 1Ds Mark III or a 5D MarkII, and some of them on a Canon EOS3 film camera. I also use my Samsung Galaxy S7's camera a bunch for vids and quick photos that I don't plan on printing.

Some of my favorite photos are of my family and my son, shot on cell phone cameras. The captured moments can make photos great, regardless of camera type or image quality. Happy shooting!

Great video. Definitely will help a lot of people just getting into photography and save them the time needed to do their own research. I've been uploading some tutorials on steemit/dlive and intend on uploading more in the future. I'd love to have the interaction you have achieved with your videos! I commend you for how comfortable you are being the center of attention in front of a live audience. I tend to be quite introverted and perhaps come off a bit socially awkward without steady interaction during my streams. I think having a steady flow of questions would help make things flow much better as you have done.

I'd be thrilled if you stopped by my steemit @anthonyj and checked out some of my images. I tend to have a darker contrast style and focus on creating printable fine art material. I'd love to hear your criticism. Always looking to improve my quality.
