Not sure what to call this, but noticed some drama brewing lately that I thought would make for a good post and maybe try and get your opinion on things.
Think it was like a week ago when someone who curates for a community I also help with curation with from time to time messaged me and notified me about a new account that's been posting AI generated posts in their community. To the community this was obviously already a major red flag since they expect this to be frowned upon on Hive as a whole, in that new account's defense however, they had tagged the post AI generated through one of peakd's new features, which, unless you hover over it in the post is hard to see. Thus the project wasn't aware of it as it wasn't mentioned anywhere else in the post or tags which there were plenty of but not the AI one. Upon further inspection they also noticed that this new account belonged to another project which had selfvoted the newer project's AI posts, since all of these posts were posted in the community, other than muting the account who seemed combative in the comments back and forth, they thought it'd also be right to downvote the posts given the obvious self-votes.
I'm not entirely sure on the order of things, but this lead the main project which had self-voted the posts to go on a downvote spree on the communities account and not stop there, but also target innocent users posting in the community. Now that's where I draw the line personally so I interfered with my own account and countered the downvotes and let them know that if they did that again I'd be doing more than just countering their downvotes.
Now to me the community was in the right, being a member of it for a long time now and knowing the inside workings of it there was a lot of different things against their rules. Primarily they don't usually even allow "web3" games to exist there, but they do act more chill when things are on the downlow with activity lately and usually warn people before muting/downvoting - unless in this case they're being really difficult and have stepped on more than just one of their rules. The other is of course no AI generated content, just because they're not specifically stating it in the rules of the community, they thought it wasn't really something that needed to be said given how Hive treats, or used to treat posts that were AI generated with the exception that they make it abundantly clear that it is AI generated. Furthermore they had pretty much just reposted a whole announcement post on two different accounts and then continued to also cross-post, etc.
It was obvious they wanted the attention of the community but not so much go about it through the right means or obeying the rules.
One thing people may not understand, while we do have censorship resistance on Hive and "do as you please", communities do have a soft censorship to maintain them as they please in the form of mutes of posts or accounts. And if you wanna use your stake as you please, in this case downvoting innocent users posting rightfully in the community, there are things that can be done about it, in my case countering the downvotes with more upvotes or if things had escalated further, using bigger downvotes. Glad it didn't come to that in this case as the haters would've probably had a field day trying to paint me as an evil downvoter out there to ruin hive, which they seem to like doing.
The other case was another project pretty much spam commenting an identical comment on everyone's active post in that community that week or something, they were also met with a mute while they kept trying to change the subject or pretend it wasn't spam and blatantly market their project further.
So yeah, not really sure what's going on lately, but you gotta respect the rules. I can understand people being excited about showing others what they've built or wanting players to come check out their own community, etc, but this is obviously not the way and it's odd some of these projects that have been here so long need to be reminded.
Unless maybe they want the drama as this gives them more attention than the previous attempts do? Maybe this post will give them some attention as well even though I'm trying not to name names or point fingers.
Who knows.
I don't think the community was being "powertrippy" as we see happening with Reddit mods, but if you're unwilling to ask for forgiveness and try starting a conversation on how to advertise your thing the right way, you kind of burn your own bridge there.
For whoever may read this, there are ways to promote your things without needing to brigade another active community in sleazy ways or by brute force. Peakd has a promotion feature where you burn part of the hive to promote a post in communities you can select yourself while the front-end keeps the other half of the hive spent for promotion. Considering one of these projects was offering a big hive rewards for a contest they're hosting, this is only a fraction of the cost and won't make you out to be a complete moron trying to shove your project in other people's faces.
Anyway, today's been a bit chill, been working on the highlight function for scrobble.life that I hope to present soon and who knows maybe we can get accepted by google adsense in the near future to generate some funding outside of the reward pool! That'd be cool.

The AI comments are getting worse and worse. I try to do my best to moderate The Pub community, but we are small, so it isn't too hard. I can't imagine the work it would take if we were larger. Something to wish for I guess. I probably wouldn't have started doing widespread downvotes either. You usually have to twist my arm to get a downvote out of me.
I did not knew this either. It seems that despite being on Hive for nearly a decade I still don't know a lot of things about it. Like in hogwarts where only a few people know all secrets of the castle.
There are lots of great use cases for Ai, but automated comments are not the best one unless you are using them for a very specific cases.
those AI comments are getting more clever though... so are the posts. Im not sure how the world is going to solve the authenticity problem. If indeed that horse has not bolted.
I actually don't think i have ever used a downvote????? I would likely be too terrified that i would get put on some permanent downvote list by an annoyed cynical mega whale and never get any hive reward again... lol lol.
It is common knowledge that Ai posts are not welcome here, expecially from projects it should be known... One is free to decline or burn payouts
Sure it's hive and no one can stop you from post Ai stuff and ask rewards, but actions have consequences, so either they power up milions of hive or they respect community rules
