It is important to know that serving others is also glorifying God.
Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, 4 rose from supper, laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. 5 Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to dry them with the towel that was wrapped around him. 6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” 7 Jesus answered, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but later you will understand.” 8 Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with me.” 9 Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!” 10 Jesus said to them, “He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, though not all of you.” 11 For he knew who was going to betray him; that was why he said, “Not all of you are clean.”
12 So when he had washed their feet, and put on his outer garment, he returned to his place and said to them, “Do you understand what I have done for you? 13 You call me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.

Let's go back for a moment to ancient Israel. People walked in sandals for long periods of time, and their feet became dirty. For this reason, it was customary to remove one's sandals upon entering a house to wash one's feet. There were homes of all social classes, and in the wealthier households, the lowest-ranking worker was responsible for washing the feet of those who entered.
Now imagine the disciples' surprised faces when Jesus Christ himself took on the role of a servant, kneeling to wash their feet. At that moment, there was a need to serve, but no one had thought to do so. Only Jesus had offered to fulfill that need for foot washing. This brought a great lesson to the disciples and an example for all posterity, including us. It means that we too should do what Jesus did: set an example of service.
The Lord teaches us that we must be willing to humble ourselves to serve others. This means that we must often set aside our pride or our position, offering our service to those who need it, even when we think we are the ones who should be served. Let us remember that this act of service performed by Jesus was far less humiliating than what he would later endure, for on the day of his judgment, those same hands that washed his disciples' feet would be pierced with nails on the cross. The Lord leaves us with a lesson: that although this act of humility may seem insignificant, it is far more important in the eyes of God and of humankind, not only for the act itself but also for the example we set for others.

Es importante saber que servir a las demás personas es también glorificar a Dios.
sabiendo Jesús que el Padre le había dado todas las cosas en las manos, y que había salido de Dios, y a Dios iba, 4 se levantó de la cena, y se quitó su manto, y tomando una toalla, se la ciñó. 5 Luego puso agua en un lebrillo, y comenzó a lavar los pies de los discípulos, y a enjugarlos con la toalla con que estaba ceñido. 6 Entonces vino a Simón Pedro; y Pedro le dijo: Señor, ¿tú me lavas los pies? 7 Respondió Jesús y le dijo: Lo que yo hago, tú no lo comprendes ahora; mas lo entenderás después. 8 Pedro le dijo: No me lavarás los pies jamás. Jesús le respondió: Si no te lavare, no tendrás parte conmigo. 9 Le dijo Simón Pedro: Señor, no solo mis pies, sino también las manos y la cabeza. 10 Jesús le dijo: El que está lavado, no necesita sino lavarse los pies, pues está todo limpio; y vosotros limpios estáis, aunque no todos. 11 Porque sabía quién le iba a entregar; por eso dijo: No estáis limpios todos.
12 Así que, después que les hubo lavado los pies, tomó su manto, volvió a la mesa, y les dijo: ¿Sabéis lo que os he hecho? 13 Vosotros me llamáis Maestro, y Señor; y decís bien, porque lo soy. 14 Pues si yo, el Señor y el Maestro, he lavado vuestros pies, vosotros también debéis lavaros los pies los unos a los otros. 15 Porque ejemplo os he dado, para que como yo os he hecho, vosotros también hagáis.

Remontémonos por un momento a la antigua Israel, como aquellas personas que caminaban con sandalias durante un largo periodo de tiempo, todo esto hacía que se ensucian sus pies y por esa razón era un hábito que al entrar a una casa se quiten la sandalias para poder limpiarse los pies. Habían hogares de todas las clases y en los hogares de mejor posición los trabajadores de la más baja posición es la responsable de lavar los pies de aquellos que entraban en esa casa.
Ahora imaginemos ese cuadro al ver la cara de sorpresa de los discípulos cuando el mismo Jesucristo tomó el papel de un siervo arrodillando se para lavar sus pies, en ese momento había una necesidad de servir pero nadie había pensado hacerlo. Sólo Jesús se había ofrecido a suplir esa necesidad de lavar los pies. Esto trajo una gran lección a la vida de los discípulos y un ejemplo para toda la posteridad inclusive para nosotros, esto significa que también debemos hacer lo que Jesús hizo, un ejemplo de servicio.
El señor nos enseña que debemos estar dispuestos a humillarnos para brindar un servicio a las demás personas, esto quiere decir que debemos dejar de lado muchas veces el orgullo o nuestra posición disponiendo así un servicio a quien nos requiera aún cuando pensemos que nosotros somos los que debemos ser servidos por estas personas. Recordemos que este acto de servicio que realizó Jesús fue mucho menos humillante que lo que tuvo que atravesar momentos más tarde ya que en el día de su juicio esas mismas manos que lavó los pies de sus discípulos estarían siendo atravesada por clavos así en la cruz. El señor nos deja una lección: que a pesar que este acto de humildad pareciera ser insignificante es mucho más que importante a los ojos de Dios Y de los hombres no solamente por el mismo acto sino también por el ejemplo que dejamos a los demás.
