A future without man

And what if mankind happened to be one of those darwinian tree branches that will never see flowers blossom, doomed to dry an fall inert on the ground. What if the planet destruction by man is not destruction, but construction, construction of a future without man. What if Earth man made demise was not the end but the begining of an era without man. Our own self-esteem, this need to see in human more than a product of mother Earth, a sentient being, gifted with consciousness and introspection is always promoted as a proof of freedom, a key that delivers us from the chains of this natural world that all living species are subject to. But what if, actually we happen to just be nature's own instrument to better rejuvenate itself, an agent of its mutation.

Today, many people see in human activity and technological progress the anihilation and obliteration of life on earth. We talk about progressive destruction of earth, but if we think about it what is destroyed is not earth but earth as we perceive it. More explicitely, what alarms us, is not the state of the planet but our ability to survive in it, the state of our way of life and the disaperance of our eden. Don't misunderstand me, I actually feel a deep sorrow for the loss of nature majesty under the blind foot of man, but we have to admit that we are not really destroying Earth itself, this world is and will be for a long time before being shattered accross the universe.

Mankind, through pollution, deforestation, intensive fishing and blind dry-out of natural ressources is merely remodeling the planet, same as the first plants did before us when they brought the rate of oxygene in the atmosphere to the current 20%. In one hand it has allowed continental life to develop based on the use and recycling of oxygene by some species but in the other hand, a full branch of evolution, the anaerobics, has disappeared to leave the room to this era of oxygenized air consumers. This biological revolution that is photosynthesis has remodelled for more than 3,8 billion years not only the living beings but also the physical traits of the planet through the mechanims of Oxydation and chemical reactions implying the molecule of breathing life on earth. This shows that earth is not only the solid rock where living beings walk freely, earth is those beings and they are earth.

Man does not destroy the planet, he participates to its changes. The rise of consciousness and mankind may only be a simple branch of the evolutionary tree and while it may lead to a dead end for mankind it will not in any case destroy the planet and may permit the creation of another ecosystem and the rise of another dominant life form. A new life born from man way of life and that hopefully would have learn from our mistakes to prevail forever.
